As I stated, I do not have a problem with Jeffrey. I wasn't the one who brought him up either. The interviewer even stated, when he talks to friends, etc. they say Steve Perry isn't in the band anymore. That's been 21 years (with the exception of TBF) ago. Not to mention, they had a singer for 8 years after TBF. So, if people don't realize that a. Perry isn't involved anymore b. there was a singer after him for a long time (longer than Perry's active tenure). How the hell, are the masses supposed to know or realize there was a Jeff Scott Soto in the band. It would've been a waste of time. Only a few people on this board want to know what happened, and those who do, already know. Neal & Jon were pr-cks, right? Isn't that the story.

I'm sorry Andrew and all, but I couldn't let this pass. Are you kidding me? Why would a major magazine waste space and ink on this? NO one KNOWS who Soto is? Not saying he isn't good, but he is not a mainstream star or near Journey/Perry's level.

Come on folks, already. I'm not bashing Soto, but we really need to have a sense of reality here. He was a singer for 9 or 10 months with them, and a pinch-hitter or relief pitcher, whichever analogy you prefer, at that.

For the sake of Soto, let it go. You're making it impossible for people like me to even try and like his music.

I am making it impossible for you to try and like JSS's music??????????????? Sorry mate, you've lost me.

A major magazine has just done an interview with members of a band called Journey. It briefly mentioned the tenure of various singers. I would have liked a little more about what went down last year. Because it happened recently and because I am curious.
How that affects your taste in singers baffles me.

I - as a fan of the band - and not a basher of ANY of the singers - have waited a long time to hear Neal's thoughts on the break up of the line up way back when.
Living in the UK, we got bugger all info about it when it happened. And as Neal has been so vocal now about his thoughts and feelings on Perry, I would have liked a paragraph - just a few words - about what went down recently too. It's all part of the interesting history of a band whose music I enjoy listening to.

Now will YOU stop telling me that Soto isn't near Perry's level? I have a brain and a mind of my own. I know how good Perry was, thanks.
Also FYI, I DO have a sense of reality. I know how long Soto was with them. I have been a member of this board for long enough to work that out thankyou.

I can work out that his tenure wasn't a long one, but he WAS a member of the band. I saw him perform with the band last year, and I was just curious about what Neal would have to say about his hiring and firing.
We got a brief interview last year with JSS but not Neal. That ok with you?

Geez, don't take it so personal.

Too late. I already did. It was hard not to.

Perry is lying pure and simple... No mention of Against the wall.. His voice was toast then and he took a long break ??? bullshit... His ego got the best of him, he wasnt getting along with Neal and Jon, so he split and wanted to do his own thing.

Sony A&R didnt like it and shelved it which would have been ego shattering for someone as seemingly fragile as Perry and he dropped out.... He fucked Journey and sony fucked him probably because he fucked Journey then Perry fucked Sony with TBF and no tour......

Perry seems like the bad guy to me... I think Neal is a no bullshit honest guy. You can just tell.... At the end of the interview the "fuck him" comment paired with everything that Herbie has said in both interviews says it all.....

Perry has issues. Its like the whole world against Perry if you look from his point of view.

I believe Herbie and Neal for sure over him.....

I would love to see the list of no-no questions that Perry gives to interviewers and I bet I can guess one of them right now....

1. Steve, could you still sing the old material ?

Speaking personally, I only found out that Steve had spoken because I came on here. :)

I check in regularly to find out all the information I do not get in the UK Press or on tv. Its the place to come to find out who in the band has spoken. Andrew sees to that. He is great.

I also enjoy reading other people's opinions.
Yes it gets heated sometimes, but its always informative and entertaining.
It wasn't so long ago that many of us were complaining that nothing was happening Journey-wise.
No such complaints now!

You weren't able to keep a straight face reading that?

Surely you took DEAD seriously his accusation of Schon sitting there (presumably with a rag over his mouth and wearing a wig and fake beard) listening in on the phone line when Cain called to ask for an answer?

It has to be hard when you perpetuate one thing through Joe Benson and other cherry picked propaganda outlets and then reality tells you something very different. It's called lying to yourself.

I've always tried to never take sides during this whole Perry v. Neal/Cain/Journey drama, but this interview definitely opened my eyes to how much of a drama freak Perry really is. I actually think his over emotional, whoa is me attitude may also be the reason why he was able to belt out such soulful recordings and performances. Artist love to be martyrs, some times that the characteristic that makes their talent soar. On the other hand, there is absolutely no reason why he has taken such a hard line against NS and the others. If he were as good of a business man as he claims to be, he would know that no one person should be allowed to destroy a brand through indifference. I'm fine with someone telling me to F off if thats how they feel..but don't ignore me like I don't exist. Perry continues to actually do both with his band mates, and his fans.

i wouldn't call them pr-cks. in the end it is a business and they gotta do what they feel is best for their business. cowards works better for me since they didn't have the balls or respect for a so-called brother to tell the truth. but it's over and done with so no point in rehashing. i hardly expect the masses to know jeff was a vocalist in journey. i think all here know what happened, but just like everything in life only those involved directly know the whole story and it really is no one elses business. not to take away from message board fodder....

Or could it have been one of the many people who claim to have inside information on the band?

Nah, I prefer to imagine it was Neal wearing a fake moustache [exactly like the one Perry famously shaved off.]

You know, they are all going to put their own spin on this to make themselves appear in a favourable light.
None of them are perfect. And some are more sinned against than sinning.

And I think they are all still too pissed off with each other to get closure yet.
I wish they would hurry up.
I'm so nosey I want to hear everything! When I hear what they all have to say on matters which have unfolded, then I can form an opinion.
I haven't met any band members like many on here have. So I like to read, learn, inwardly digest interviews and make up my own mind.
I havent read any Neal comments on what went down last year.
I'm sorry JSS's tenure was only a short one, but I'm glad he was brought onto my radar.
I love my Essential Ballads CD. And I wouldn't have heard of it otherwise.

With regard to that interview.... that was a lot of rambling so I MAY have missed something, and correct me if I did, but...

Where in all that did Steve Perry say one word about recording an album? Because what *I* read in was this:

"I’m working on stuff. I’m not sure what I’m gonna do with it yet, but I got a lot of material, and a lot of it I really like"

Unless there's something that was said and not printed, I'm still not ready do a jig of glee over a forthcoming album. This is exactly how both rumors and forum fights get started.

I posted asking if he was really doing an album or was he teasing. It was wishful thinking on my part. The album, not the teasing, that is.
But far be it from me to start a rumour. I've already made Tito incapable of being open minded towards JSS, apparently.

I'd hotlink it MYSELF because its fucking funny as all shit, but I don't think Andrew would approve of having that. I could be wrong but I do try to respectfully play within the boundaries of the person whose running the place.

p.s. - if anyone else plans to hotlink, I can't stop it, but just not in the perry thread. That would just be so wrong.

You people really get worked up over folks you don't even know personally. I don't really care who is lying and who's not. I enjoyed both interviews as it allows us to dive a little more into the personalities of Steve Perry and Neal Schon. It's a shame that things are the way they are in Journeyland currently, but so be it. If Steve Perry is truly writing new material for public consumption, I'm sure 90% will go out and buy it and the other 10% are lying about not buying it.
