Every time.

I swear, every time Journey does a 'first' with Arnel, be it a first live gig in Chile,
or a first go at prime US National TV (Ellen), there's this bunch of folks that comes out
and says that Arnel's:

1. pitchy
2. vocaly strained
3. too heavily accented
4. not going to last

...and a few go so far as to say they've given up on Journey.
To them, I'd like to pose the question, "Just what do you really want?"

Nobody I know has perfect pitch 24/7 regardless of their situation, has infinite range,
has a perfect American accent (whatever the ratfuck THAT is), can do a reasonable
Perry on the dirty dozen, AND be as easy to work with as the guy Journey hired.
Odds are, there's no one you know, either.

What's the real chance that someone who's all that (but perfectly so) would join Journey,
rather than sign up for Idol or start something new?

"Fans" giving up on Journey?? Come on....
If 'nel is pitchy one gig, well, shit happens. Point it out, because that's stuff he'd want to know.
If his range isn't up to it, point that out too. Journey will want to find a way to work around that.
Then again, there's pointing out... and there's gleefully-hostile sniping.

Accent? I agree wholeheartedly it can be an issue on the oldies... but only up to a point.
Precisely because I grew up with that accent, I can detect it ALL THE FUCKING TIME when Arnel sings.
I mean, I was livid when I heard the DSB redo clip at the WalMart site, but the rest of the clips,
suggest that maybe 90% of what's in the bundle is good stuff. More than enough to make up for DSB.

Maybe we have to decide if 90% is good enough, to build upon and to appreciate,
because holding out for 100% seems one long wait for a train that won't come.

Arnel isn't going to last very long, Journey catalog or no. He'll be turning 50 soon.
So, how many years has Arnel really got left in his tank?
How do you want to spend what you've got left in yours?

Its a combination of issues....people are pissed at the fucking we've been getting from Journey for years...this is their way to lash out.

But lets also divide the venom from the veracity. Arnel HAS been pitchy at times. He DOES sound vocally strained on some numbers (he sounds great on ballads, he loses his perry-like timbre on the harder numbers) It's not a case of people making this shit up just to stir some loose bile into the pot.

So while I agree that some people are just naysayers....I submit to you, they're lashing out because they've had it. Give them some space, they'll either come around or go away.

But also....to think the guy walks on fucking water and is flawless, is a bad case of delusions of grandeur. The guy isn't steve perry, circa 1982.

I've already supposed Arnel is 90%.

For me, anyone seriously claiming Arnel 2008 is equivalent to Steve Perry 1982 is certainly wrong.
But maybe anyone seriously selling that shit simply can't distinguish the 10% difference,
and maybe their limitations can charitably excuse their giddy claims. Fanboys will be fanboys.
Whatever floats their boat.

Non-lunatics, on the other hand, those smart/sensitive enough to perceive the 10% difference
should be smart/sensitive enough not to be selling the opposite kind of shit,
which is to act like anything less than 100% is unacceptable, and throw out all kinds of whining.
Whatever sinks Arnel's boat.

If there are long-term hurt feelings out there, I might point out Arnel had NOTHING to do with causing 'em.

wech, I'll agree with you on most parts...although, I think giving arnel 90% is a stretch. I wouldn't give Steve Augeri 45% of Perry, and I was a HUGE supporter of my brooklyn bro. There's something that perry had, that none of these guys will ever have in a million years...including arnel....and that huge something, in my eyes is at LEAST 50% 0f the end game. To trivialize the difference to just a measly 10% is, in my humble opinion, doing all parties a serious injustice.

regardless, it doesn't matter if Arnel has anything to do with what Journey did to the fans. He's the fucking messenger. i'm not saying this is right or appropriate. But think about it....he's the guy...in some eyes, that stole the job from JSS, who pulled the rug out from under Augeri, who in turn, shot Perry in the hip from an igneous rock formation in hawaii....lol....seriously. It don't fucking matter. The target is far less important than whether or not you get to pull the trigger and feel better about it!
