It really dumbfounds me how this soap-opera of a band continues to raise the bar in drama as each year rolls on. Every time someone opens their mouth for an interview I feel like I'm more aware of just how things went down. Only real thing I got out of this is that Perry really misses JRNY - and probably really wants to be in it. I think Neal misses Perry for all kinds of reasons, but man that "FU" comment hurts. They're all like children in a 1st grade class who really need some "peer mediation." How can such a great band be such a bunch of loons?

LOL - no kidding. It makes me wonder if they secretly come in here and laugh at the stupid conclusions we must be coming to about things.

LOL! I don't know about you but it's like listening to an old couple arguing after having been divorced for many years. Each blaming the other for something that doesn't really matter to anyone besides themselves. It's between the two of them. And then people take sides or try to take sides and say which one is right and which one is wrong and who should get the house or cars or jewelry or get custody of the kids and/or the dogs. Who was unfaithful first and who slept with who or why didn't you treat me better back then and who called who first and who did what to whom...lol! And he says he whines and he says he is a jerk and then the fans say "yeah" he is a jerk and he's whining. LOL! So one gets alimony and one has to still pay child support and one is complaining and the other is saying "it's not enough" and maybe I'll start work and you can stop paying me alimony but maybe I wont...

And then the children of divorce continue to bicker about the new wives and the new partners and no body is ever happy cause it didn't turn out like you wanted it to. You should have stayed with her and why are you dating him and...LOL! And all of the kids know just how to fix things if they were in charge but instead they have to sit on the sidelines and suffer and put their energies in photoshops and complaints and ranting and raving.

Probably not nearly as much as having to sign away your First Ammendment rights so you could regain control of your own band, but at the same time still pay a guy that won't tour a share equal to that of the guys out there busting there butts.

On one hand I completely relate to and understand Steve Perry's point of view in all this.

On the other hand I went "right on, Neal" four different times and agreed with him too.

I like both guys a little more (if that was possible) after this interview and continue to look forward to anything and everything they put out.

Wow, that interview was cool to see today and read. My thoughts: I think that there is such a strong affection deep down between SP and NS from their past together and therefore a deep hurt (at least, that is what I sense). I can see both sides and can't blame either one for their choices. They are just such PASSIONATE individuals...and, it worked for them in getting this music made & out there. I hope neither man gets angry about what they read or hear in this interview because the bottom line is that they were all brought together for a reason and they "fulfilled that mission" and they should be proud of that. The music is so much bigger than all of it...all the differences, the blaming, etc. I'm eternally grateful for having it in my life! :)

Now when can we hear this new music from SP?? :D oh, I hope so. I feel bad that he has had such struggles with hearing his own voice...and, dealing with certain insecurities/fears. It was very insightful what he spoke about...on hearing how a singer, esp. one such as he, facing that fear of "what is gonna come out tonight, will it be there? and everyone is expecting perfection each time." It really is the most delicate instrument.

So, thanks to Alex P. for this great interview...gee, I wouldn't mind at all listening to SP talk for 2 hrs...or more. :)

not real good business sense there..... no one forced them to sign, it's called negotiations and clearly perry is a bit sharper than the others.

Oh yes you would. Don't even lie. You were one of those hopefuls that Perry would return to the band before Journey hired Arnel.
You'd not only download it, but probably buy three copies of it in case the first two messed up!

Damn, there's not nearly as much drama or hurt feelings in those interviews as there is in here, lol.

The conspiracy theories, the 'I could run your life better than you' experts, the melodramatic fans, (not sure which is more unlikely – that we will get new music, or if we do, that SJ won’t squeal like a little girl while waiting to buy it :P )

It really is like we're the kids in the middle of a bitter and endless divorce, lol

"He hugged me, I hugged him, and he said a few things in my ear—that are mine, I’m not gonna mention ‘em."

Any takers as to what exactly Neal whispered into Perry's ear at the Walk of Fame ceremony?

My guess is it was something along the line of, "You were right. It's just not the same."
That, or "gotta make alimony this week. Mind if I borrow a fiver for a pack of camels?"

Other possibilities include -

"You oughta see what a fine mess Friga's mentsrual bleeding made of the tour bus."

"Gag order be damned, I've missed your beak burrowed into my sensistive manly folds and gooch."

Add your own.
"I think we should all sue this women for depriving us of our God given right to go down with a clear mind, and good thoughts." - Stu, Consumate Pussy Eater

We're realists. We don't lump the guy in with Perry, Gramm, Mercury, Elliott, Jamison and even Cronin, like others do. He's held in proper perspective in our eyes...which on the Melodic Rock food chain is somewhere toward the bottom third.

you of course are entitled to your opinion regarding one's talent. i still don't see why you brought him up tho, he's got nothing to do with this ongoing dialogue. you're bummin' me out :( .

To say that JSS is in the bottom third of the "Melodic Rock Food Chain" is downright preposterous.

Anybody in this part of the business, whether they're a customer or a musician, knows and respects JSS. There's a shit-ton of guys out there who would love to work and write with Jeff. Why else does it seem like he's working with somebody different every month?

Let's take a brief look at the people Jeff has written and performed with:

Journey
Queen
Talisman
Malmsteen
Soul Sirkus
Tempestt
Dokken
Steve Lukather (soon)

and a ton more I'm forgetting, I know...

Yes, yes... definitely in the bottom third of the MR chain.

He's been around for over 20 years. Please name Top 40 hits, gold and/or platinum albums, and songs played on the radio. And don't jack me off with excuses either, because artists want to have hits. And I know everyone repects him. People respected Mickey Morandini...doesn't mean he was a great baseball player. You, like others, simply can't differentiate a great guy from a great artist. He's a respected journeyman artist. Nothing more.
