I think most of us just think that he is a hard working talent and maybe one of the most hard working out there. Some of us LOVED him with Journey, not because he was a "friend" as Dan likes to portray, but because he knew how to work an audience and make a concert full of energy and fun. I did not know much of Jeff myself until Journey, I will freely admit that. I had to back track to realize all I missed out on. And I'm glad Journey gave me and others the opportunity to do that so that we could discover even more great music out there. I never said he was a superstar. Why does he need to be? Not everyone needs to be a superstar to get the title of talented front man. You are blasting Jeff all over the place every chance you get. I'm just trying to figure out why :?: Why does it bother you that so many of us enjoyed his time with Journey and love to continue to follow his career ?

Thank you. This is my main point. For all the "backstabbing" complaints, this is what Journey did for him. They gave him a larger audience. Each individual from the masses will determine if they like the music or not. You did, I think it's ok. He doesn't have to be a superstar. Others here make him out to be. It doesn't bother me one iota about his stint in Journey and people enjoying it or not. My major problem is the unwarranted "backstabbed" comments and to a lesser extent the fans overhyped Stardom (NOTE: not talent or quality of music). Period.

For the 100th time you've been told this. It's not the fact that they let him go at all. It's the WAY he was let go. We get it, you guys don't care, business is business. We do care and we are allowed to just as you are allowed to not care. Why keep harping and bashing? I just don't get it. He was backstabbed. Neal thought of Jeff as a friend, not just a fellow musician and in the end he was backstabbed by the WAY he found out he was fired. If Neal really wanted to or cared he could have found a way for management to tell Jeff in a respectful manner that he was being let go. Are you going to tell me that Neal has no pull with his own management? If he does not after all these years then I dont' see him as very successful in his career. Lots of bands from the 70's and 80's manage themselves or have say with their management now. I just don't buy that he could do nothing. He didnt' and that is where some of the "fans" have a problem.

I have never fawned over any band or band member. I've been to a few meet and greets. Honestly, I didn't say 3 words. I keep my music influences at arm's length. Ross sat next to me in Vegas...I said a few words and left him alone. I saw Cain 3 times...never said a word to the man. I saw Deen, chatted for all of 20 seconds and stepped away. I was invited to the actual room of one of the remaining 2 members and declined. In the past, I've given away after-show passes to people that I thought would enjoy them more. I understand they (band members)want their privacy at times, and especially away from "work." Which is exactly why I stay away from their tour bus, don't crash their after show dinners, don't go to sound checks (though I did do one in Chicago as it was open to the public), stay away from their hotel rooms, and don't want to "hang" with them. A chance encounter in a public place? Sure.

You seemed pretty excited and looked pretty happy in that picture with Deen :P Oh, but that was a "chance" encounter. You could have walked away if you felt that strongly about the mingling.

I'm not sure what your point is here. I saw the guy, commented on the improvement in his drumming and stepped away. I felt that to be "proper." 8)

I dont' think it was so veiled actually. He knows what he's saying and who he is talking to. He thinks he's better because he didn't get to know Jeff and that we are all invalidated because we did get to know him a little. I don't care if that makes us biased or not. I just know when I saw Jeff in Tampa, I had never met him, and his show with Journey was AWESOME! So awesome we wanted to see them again. So we flew to BUFFALO. It was a cheap flight and venue, so we went for it, not knowing they would extend the tour 2 more times and be back in Florida a few more times. We had never met him then either nor expected to. We saw them in Baltimore, STILL never meeting Jeff or caring if we did or not. We just knew that we were enjoying Journey again and thought the concerts were a blast. It wasn't until we got to know people on this board that we ended up meeting him, and only because they were all traveling to Florida this time and they played 3 venues in driving distance to us. Then we met him. We were fans BEFORE we met him. Meeting Jeff, hanging out with him, talking to him, had nothing to do with our enjoying him as a front man. It's a bunch of bull. We took trips not to hang out with Jeff, but to hang out with people we had gotten to know in our travels and had lots of fun with. Not that meeting him wasn't a great experience because he is great to his fans, but that was NOT the reasoning. At least for most of us.

My point is that you need to stop this "I'm better because I don't meet musicians and they are all invalidated and biased because they have" bull Dan :P :x You were JUST as excited to meet Deen and Ross as anyone was. You were one of the first to move to Ross's side of the bar. Go ahead and keep blaming the alcohol though :P

I have not "downscaled" Perry's accomplishments in any way. Unless my saying he's the "greatest singer I've ever heard" counts. The only thing I know about Jeff is that he's a highly accessible artist that's great to his fans. Any "accomplishments" I refer to are these things called facts. No hits, no recognizable bands fronted, and no radio play. Period. I'm done here. :)

I agree with SJ on this. There are tons of talented singers, writers, actors, and musicians out there, but unless you've been embraced by the masses does it really matter? If they don't know who you are then they'll never know the depths of your talent. Vice versa, just because they know who you are is no indicator of talent. PARIS HILTON ANYBODY?

No, in a "veiled" attempt he is telling those of us fans who Jeff was "good to" that we are wrong with thinking he is any kind of talent who deserves our respect or following. He thinks Jeff bought it with his friendliness and it's bull.

To deduce that I think I'm "better" than you or anyone else is absurd. And I'm not "attacking" anyone, as Prog suggested. I just think that pestering these guys after the show while they eat, are on their bus or in their hotel is a bit much. If you run into them by chance, fine. And sound checks are cool, too...if you're invited. But sneaking in, and I've known friends to do it (no one here) is a a bit much, too. The "invalidated" comment is simply too ridiculous to even discuss. You guys met Jeff the right way. Through invitation and chance...I have no problem with that. You guys are paranoid.

Well then why do you feel the need to keep repeating the facts that Jeff is good to his fans and that you never try to meet musicians? What is your point :P

Your not attacking Jeff, you are belittling his career. There is just no reason for you to do that. He's out of Journey, you are happy, he's moved on, so why do you need to keep down playing his talent?

And you know Dan, you're probably one of the ONLY reasons I even gave Arnel a shot and decided to buy the tickets in Vegas. It was because of your cheerleading for him. Arnel is not a top 40 artist. Arnel is not "popular" in the states, yet you will cheerlead him like he is the next coming. So why is it so bad for us to want to do that for Jeff? I happened to enjoy Arnel and thought the concert was a lot of fun. I still missed Jeff on that stage, but it was fun and Arnel is a talent. So why keep up the bashing :?:

Try to keep up here SG, it's not about who rules and who sucks...it's about who had or didn't have more hits in the eighties...no wait, it's about who's met more members of the band...no, it's about who stalks band members...no wait, it's about who Jeff likes more....

Oh hell, nevermind, I'm lost now too!
