THEATRICAL ROCKER

There was a real nice article about Dennis in the San Antonio Express News yesterday. It was in the S.A. Life section. The title of the article is above. It talked about his entire career and how excellent Hunchback is.

One of his quotes in the article is 'the bar bills alone in Styx glory days were more than the Bailiwick can spend on an entire season of shows'. It stated that he started writing Hunchback back in 1993 in Fresno California.

It is really a long and impressive article that chronicles Dennis & Styx.

The article also shows a picture of Dennis now, and one of him with Styx. The Styx picture looks to be one from their Pieces Of Eight/Main Event tour days.

I am never sure whether to believe you or not, Yogi, noting your track record on this site. :o

However, this sounds very much like the article that originally appeared in the Chicago Tribune. It really was a good, comprehensive one. (Sadie may have posted the link here a few threads back).

Anyway, I sent it to various members of my family and to friends who wonder what the hell I keep flying off to places like Chicago and Atlantic City to see. This gives a very good summary of the career of Dennis DeYoung.

Wish we could still get the SA paper here. Nice to see he got publicity all the way down here in Texas. :D

I believe you, Yogi. In fact, I believe it was the San Antonio paper that had a small write-up about Dennis a few years back. Surprised the heck out of me.

I'll say this much. Mr. Jones is the theater critic for the Chicago Tribune. Beyond that...

OK, I posted this on another group back in 2004. The article was in the May 10, 2004 issue of the San Antonio Express News.

My Mom alerted me to this article which appeared in the San Antonio
Express News via the Los Angeles Daily News.

Now how is THAT for some far flung publicity for Dennis???

I was unable to find the link either to the LA Daily News or the SA
Express News on the internet for this article but it appears below.
It was quite prominent on the page of this section.

(He is not even playing a concert in San Antonio. This was simply an
article they felt was worthy of publishing in their paper ...)

Page 2 of the S.A. Life Section – Features News in Brief

Smooth Sailing for Styx's DeYoung

Down but not out. That's singer Denis DeYoung's story and he's
sticking to it.

The former lead vocalist for quintessential classic rock band Styx,
DeYoung has been sidelined the past several years because of a rare
eye disease that caused him to be ultra sensitive to light. Then he
endured a major legal hassle with his former bandmates, who continue
to use the name Styx without DeYoung.

On the comeback trail, DeYoung is touring as a solo artist for the
first time, and he's doing it in style.

DeYoung, 57, is scheduled to perform Styx classics such as "Come
Sail Away," "Lady," "Babe," and "Grand Illusion," along with solo
hits.

"It's like a dream for me to have the opportunity to stand in front
of an audience and play the same music I've been playing for 30
years but with a full orchestra behind me." DeYoung said. "It's a
thrill to say the least."

As to the recent article originally from the Tribune, this is done all the time. I read articles sourced from many newspapers in the Houston Chronicle. Again. Apparently in San Antonio, they feel Dennis is newsworthy.

Not disputing that at all. It's a common practice...however "normally" the newspaper that "borrows" the article also has a link. Amazing that that link isn't found here. Now, again, I am not saying it isn't possible.

It is this article/interview, posted, as I said before, by Sadie. This was the source for the reprint in the San Antonio Express News.

(Side note: Articles etc. that appear in the print edition often do not appear in the online edition and vice versa)
