STORY_TELLER wrote:Pristine clarity?? Augeri? Seriously? Are we talking Higher Place on the CBS morning show in 2001 pristine? How about that acoustic version of Liberty on the VH1 Classic show? That kind of pristine? I think we differ on the definition! lol... I know you like Augeri, but sorry, he started having troubles in 2001 (if not sooner) and didn't get better.
Are you fucking retarded, boy?
The reason he was "now hitting the tail-end with pristine glass shattering clarity" is, as I thought I had just explained, because they were using tape.
That's why I mentioned that previously, back when it was live, Augeri would trade it off to Deen.
STORY_TELLER wrote:We also differ on the timeline, and here's why:
To my ears, the tapes being used to cover him were straight off the 2001 DVD (although I believe you when you say they probably tried to change that up after fans started catching on). I was at the Generations show in California where they started the tour and he was REALLY bad at that point. All the reports I read online of subsequent shows on that tour had people complaining left right and center,..
I don't care what you believe. This has nothing to do with intuition.
Me and Deano were brothers-in-arms throughout this whole thing. You can take the chronology I told you to the bank.
The early Generations shows were live, I don't dispute that.
And yes, Journey 2001 was used for some tracks (mainly the dirty dozen), but not all.
As I previously mentioned, the band had tapes of Augeri doing studio-quality renditions of "Dead or Alive," "Keep on Running," "Chain Reaction" "When you Love A Woman" and others not on the 2001 dvd. "Faith in the Heartland" was another one, differing from the cd version.
Also, I'm not sure how dilligently you kept up with those tour reviews, because during the tour Augeri started getting the strongest reviews of his career.
It even caused me to speculate that he was on some sort of steroid regimen.
Most fans I talked with were happy that he had finally got his shit together (or so they thought).

Understand that this was a grassroots effort by fans to bring the band to bear.
The fans uncovered the lipsynching because they have boots of every tour.
It wasn't until boots (audio and video) circulated of the Generations tour that fans noticed every song suddenly sounding the same.
That, and Augeri now strangely hiding his mouth with the fuzzy mic head.
As for the 2004 Detour tour.... yes, parts of certain songs were lipped. Maybe a song here or there.
Depended on the night and how Augeri was holding up.
Mainly done ad hoc.
Remember, it was only after the Generations tour, during the Sweden festival, that one of the sound guys sung like a canary and told the world of all the scandalous details.
So again, your timeline is just way off.
STORY_TELLER wrote:Guarantee you, they were pro-tooling Augeri left right and center on the album recordings too. He just wasn't a quality vocalist. Not in JSS's league or Arnel's league. He never belonged in this band. I wish Neal had more patience with the auditions process and took more time to seek out a more quality vocalist before starting the Arrival sessions.
This is true. Herbie tagged Chalfant for the job in the 80s. As far as I'm concerned, whatever the big man says is gospel.
