Styx Honored by Louisiana house of Representatives

Here is the text of a resolution that passed on Thursday, June 19.

HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 171
BY REPRESENTATIVE CARMODY
A RESOLUTION
To commend STYX for its generous contributions to Sweet Home New Orleans.
WHEREAS, since Hurricane Katrina, STYX has been raising money to support the
recovery of New Orleans' musical culture; and
WHEREAS, Sweet Home New Orleans' mission is to revitalize the music and
cultural community within the neighborhoods of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, STYX presented Sweet Home New Orleans (SHNO) with a thirty
thousand dollars contribution before taking the stage at the 2007 Endymion
Extravaganza
at the Superdome; and
WHEREAS, the contribution from STYX is helping SHNO to offer rental
subsidies
to professional musicians, Mardi Gras Indians, and Social Aid & Pleasure
Club members;
and
WHEREAS, STYX's generosity is aiding SHNO in its effort to help New Orleans
tradition bearers close the gap between the pre- and post-Katrina cost of
rental housing; and
WHEREAS, recipients of rental assistance from SHNO will also receive the
benefits
of Neighborhood Housing Services' programs that teach "financial fitness"
and foster
home ownership; and
WHEREAS, when Hurricane Katrina struck, STYX wanted to give its fans an
opportunity to come together and offer a helping hand, so the band created a
link on its
STYXworld.com web site where donations could be made; and
WHEREAS, STYX raised additional funds by selling a limited edition series of
autographed photographs of the band; and
WHEREAS, STYX's fans trusted the band to make their hard-earned dollars
count,
so it was with great pride that the band represented STYX fans everywhere
with its donation
to Sweet Home New Orleans, a program which brings musicians home to New
Orleans and
which STYX is proud to support; and
WHEREAS, the members of STYX merit a special measure of commendation for
the inspiring manner in which they have provided generous assistance to
Sweet Home New
Orleans in a historic time of need.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend STYX for its generous
contributions to
Sweet Home New Orleans and does hereby extend deep and enduring gratitude
for the
tremendous relief and support that they have provided to the people of New
Orleans.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be
transmitted
to STYX.
