My question is not if Drummers are a dime a dozen or if Blondes with Big Boobs have brains, It is should Todd miss 2 Styx concerts for a Drumming Festival? I understand about honoring commitments, but should the Styx gig override an industry show or is Todd shopping his considerable wares elsewhere? I'm sure Tommy and JY are cool with it or they wouldn't have approved and Styx would have a new drummer. It just sounds a little like my Grandmother died over the weekend or there was a terrible flood or I didn't have enough money for Cab fare.

Now, I'm not calling Todd or anyone else a liar. I just don't know if this is the beginning of another band change.

No, it's really not.

Todd had this engagement planned for a long time. He has *always* been a drummer first, Styx guy second. Always. That has never, ever changed. And it's not the other way around: Todd isn't blowing a Styx engagement off to play at a Drum festival that came up at the last minute. Styx booked a gig long after Todd had committed to be at the festival. Period.

People, honestly, you are reading way too much into things. It is odd that it seems to fall on the heels of JY's recent absences (but really, could anyone have predicted something like JY's situation? And if so, please call me: I have a few numbers I'd like to discuss with you), but all of it is pure and complete coincidence.

You can all relax. Rumor has it that Glen's gonna fill in for him.

My apologies if I offended anyone. I've been listening to Styx since I was 10 years old and I realize that a 4/4 player won't cut the mustard. I was blown away by Todd at the last Styx concert I attended and have said so in this very forum.

My point was that there are many other perfectly competent drummers out there who would be able to fill in. I admit that my post may have been poorly written and while I appreciate MrMusic's point in the first paragraph, I submit that the second was indeed unfortunate for him.

Sorry, but I've been slacking on catching up on posts, did you ever mention who you are and what musicians/bands that you've been a drummer for?

Maybe you should stick to the typical threads where the ladies comment on "which guy is
the snappier dresser" and "who is the cutest and has the best hair". Those threads
require nothing more than opinions and aren't based on background or facts.

Oh yes, there are more than opinions on some of "those" threads that do require background information and facts!!

There are some of ladies on here that have a special site in which we do discuss what clothes musicians/bands wear, who is the "snappier dresser", who is the cutest or the most handsome, the best hair etc.

Then of course on other threads we do discuss the usual who has the tightest pants, "the right or the left side", the most muscular musician (OMG, did you see Geoff Tates arms lately??), the nicest smile, the best hair that you'd love to run your fingers through (not Paulie B. from the band Beautiful Girls, he wouldn't even let me comb his hair!!! UGH) anyhoo!

I haven't been myself lately - trying to work full time, keep my 14 year old car running, my house clean and get my 11 year old special needs kid (Pervasive Developmental Disorder) ready for school single handledly and waiting for my grandmother to leave us when her inoperable aneurysm bursts. So it's been a little stressful over here.

Sucherman is hardly playing basic Ringo beats. The guy was a Berklee student...
and along with Gowan (who attended the Royal Conservatory of Music), they are the
most formally trained players within the band. That would make them "over qualified"
for most professional rock acts. And at the level of musicianship the band has played at
over the last decade, they won't be using a basic 4/4 player in the interim.

"Basic Ringo Beats" -- um yeah. That's why SO many drummers site him as their biggest influence... Ringo deserves a LOT OF FRIGGIN' CREDIT. The guy's fills, timing, and feel that he brought to the Beatles albums was incredibly innovative at the time. If you'd said Charlie Watts or Chris Partridge, I'd have concurred. Also Todd's one of THE most amazing drummers playing today. Second to Steve Smith in my book.

I seem to remember a group calling up the drummer of a cover band somewhere in Western Canada to cover a Metal band gig somewhere in Western Canada ... That's going to drive me crazy now ....

Drummers ARE a dime a dozen. And you don't have to be a graduate of Juliard to bang the skins for STYX. The guy Todd replaced was not a very good drummer, and any good basher with 4x4 time can fill in for a weekend.

As a bass player, I heartily disagree. Good drummers are hard to find, and Styx has specific arrangements, fills, etc. JP wasn't the best drummer ever, and Todd has certainly made the parts his own (and arguably he's a better drummer than most out there these days), but getting some schmo who can do 4 on the floor is not my idea of the drummer for Styx except if they were going to play that damn intro to Miss America all night.

I know several drummers in my area that could handle the gig but that's not even close to saying any hack could do it. John wasn't the best but he didn't suck either.

And no, good drummers aren't a dime a dozen. Keeping good time while throwing in some spice isn't something every drummer can do.

I wonder how much Todd gets paid for being in Styx, it might be time to give him a raise. I have a hard time thinking what the band will be like without him. It is very strange times for the band, playing without JY and soon to play without Todd.
