To relive yesterday's concert: it's Iron Maiden - Live After Death. Fantastic concert; Rime Of The Ancient Mariner was especially awesome.

Pathosray - Pathosray. Nice combination of heaviness and melody. It's like having Fates Warning, Dream Theater and Westworld all in one band!

'Progressive melodic death metal'????

I had a listen to this on iTunes and don't remember too many clean vox - have to give it another listen!

Yeah thanks mate - its good to hear more than a grab, but honestly as soon as that dude starts growling I just switch off. They sound good though, no doubt....if it was just the clean vox, I'd buy it now.

I second that. Never have been a fan of that style of singing, but occasionally a song will stick. Usually though, have to turn it off.

That is a great song! Best one on the record for me.

I bought Pitch Black Progress in a sale a while ago and I liked it enough to get Holographic Universe as well, there's something irresistible in their music. I did find it hard to listen to a CD in one go though; partially because of the death metal vocals, but more because the songs sounded quite alike at first ear. I had that more with HU than PBP actually.

AOTW: Blackmore's Night - Secret Voyage

Another cd of what they do best. A couple of cheesy songs, a couple of ballads and a couple of epics.

Haven't heard Secret Voyage yet, but I like that description, it fits the rest of their albums very nicely in any case. Anyway, I love Blackmore's guitar playing; very delicate and very intense. And I hate that he records songs like Olde Mill Inn! I should add, he also records some beautiful songs still.

My AOTW is possibly the quietest record I have: Duncan Browne - The Wild Places. Like a slightly jazzy Al Stewart, and with one Simon Phillips on drums. Nice to wind down the last days of summer with.

Seventh Wonder-Mercy Falls.....Quite simply the best (melodic progresive metal-if you need a description) album released all year.

I'm listening to this one now in fact. Reminds me a lot of Tomorrow's Eve, but I'm finding most songs lose my interest. There are a couple of decent moments, but I can't agree with this being the best of the year.

Continue listening (its a grower)....Its much more musically interesting than Tomorrows Eve and SW have a better vocalist. I'm still not 100% on whats going on in the story.

I haven't kept up very well... Just listened to some songs, and now I know I should have listened to them a lot sooner! Thank you for mentioning them. 8) Waiting In The Wings and Mercy Falls I'm definitely going to buy.

I've been playing Serenity - Fallen Sanctuary this week... not as good as their first to my ears, but I'm not a fan of the big orchestral sound. And it's still a good record, just not as awesome as Words Untold.

Yep, might check out Seventh Wonder - I've been hammering 'Dominator' by WASP all this week....

You can't go wrong with either Waiting in the Wings or Mercy Falls. WitW is probably a bit easier to get into. Probably avoid their first album 'Become' for a while...its okay but there is a different singer who isn't as good.

The new Serenity sounds okay after the first few listens but hasn't grabbed me like Words Untold either.

So very true! I bought WITW and MF last Saturday, and have been alternating between them since. They are both terrific.
