How about giving some control back to the local on air talent??
Saying this as a free market guy... deregulating the airwaves ruined radio.
I agree, but I doubt that ClearChannel or whatever large entity owns a radio station cares about the delight someone may have if the DJ plays an obscure track. I think that's just the facts that we now have to live with, someone in an office on the other side of the country or wherever decides what we will hear based on who gave them the best "marketing gifts". Many radio stations are a mere shadow of their former selves.
I remember when I moved to Pgh about 20 some years ago DVE was "the shit" as far as a radio station, coming from a small town in the middle of nowhere, and as a music lover the radio stations were a big hit with me and we had so many to choose from. Now we hear the same songs from the same artists all the time. You can sometimes tell the time of day from the song they are playing. I now listen only during specific times as I like certain DJ's. The one initially mention as playing Man of Miracles wasn't even the regular drive time guy and may have been following his own rules.
