Worst Replacement Singers

Who is the worst "replacement" singer in rock history? Forget their talent playing an instrument, I'm thinking just about singing ability in comparison to the guy they replaced. Vote. I tried to include as many as I could think of.

In my mind Paul Rodgers does not fit Queen.

Most, if not all on this list are excellent singers and fit their bands well. People like Hagar shouldn't even be considered "replacement singers," as the band had success with him all their own. Not to mention he's a far better singer than DLR. If you're going to include VH, it should be Gary Cherone. He did nothing with the band and that album was pretty shitty. Even still, he's a great singer, just the wrong fit. Even someone as maligned as Gowan isn't in the band to just sing - guy's a great keys player.

Just from this list, I'd have to say Paul Rodgers. Paul Rodgers sucks with Queen, but rocks with Bad Company, Free, and Jimmy Page.

It'd probably be a decent live show, but the material they produced SUCKED. I've got a couple of local favorites and even some people here on MR.com that write far better material.

Poor Tommy DeCarlo.. I think he suffered from "lack of frontman ability" more than inablility to sing. I saw them towards the end of the summer tour and he did improve from the beginning of the tour (I only saw YouTube's from the beginning of the tour) it didn't appear to me that he was comfortable on stage. Poor guy also had to compete with Michael Sweet. As much as I enjoyed the show I still felt bad for him at points.

The poll doesn't include the Vince Neil replacement, don't even remember his name. That tour was so bad that here in Pgh they curtained off half of the Civic Arena because ticket sales were so bad.

I agree totally with this post. My vote went to PR as well. Not a good fit for Queen. I would have loved to have seen JSS front that band.

Totally! When he did 'Year Of '39' at the tribute I thought I was going to lose it. He's a total trainwreck of a person and I have never liked any of his own work, but he would have been perfect.

Paul Rodgers is such an egomaniac, and it works brilliantly in his work, but it does not translate to Queen very well.

I remember Fleetwood Mac tried several people to fill in for Lyndsey Buckingham and Christine McVie on different tours. Billy Burnett, and Dave Mason come to mind. I like Dave Mason, we just disagree is a great song. But nobody in my mind can replace LB, especially his unique guitar playing.

Ugh, how bout McKenzie Philips on that ill fated Mamma's and Poppa's tour several years ago.
Cherone gets my vote too, wrong voice for that band.

LOL...I only know who he is because he did a double-bill with Glen Burtnik in Atlanta this past October. He was actually VERY good. And the guitarist he had with him was sensational. They were a bit like Shaw-Blades, only edgier and with more tats & eyeliner. lol
