And I'd venture to guess that this "generation" makes up no more than 10% of their audience.

You really have no idea what you are talking about.
He was on 2 albums that did nothing. At least Swafford had a solo song that charted sung about her. Swafford was actually more relevant (not to mention better looking). I think that's what you meant.

Ok...back to the argument. Please show me where those albums sold any decent amount and how much airplay they got. I think your answers are going to be "Minimal and zero." They are in no way part of the Styx catalog as far as "must play" songs at shows. Gowan has been a good member, but this incarnation has run its course and I'll venture to guess that 09 will be a horribe year for Styx. They need an infusion of some sort and DD could bring just that. It would only be fitting. He's a very prominent part of their past. I hope all sides can work out it out...and if that means that Gowan stays on board with Dennis, cool. :)

You do realize the majority of folks now attending a Styx concert are looking primarily for a sense of nostalgia right? They aren't really going to concern themselves with who is actually in the band anymore. Since Styx were never truly given any measure of critical acclaim, and since they haven't stayed off the road for the majority of the time since the split, there's no real hype to be gained by having DDY back in the lineup. Why put any of these men into a position where they would in all probability be uncomfortable together simply to appease some perceived idea it would bring about a groundswell of support. It won't. I highly doubt they've got many more years to be doing what they are doing in the first place. I'd rather they all be happy doing what they are.

I do realize, and respect, that. But what's wrong with making the show sound as good as it possibly can...and that can only happen with Dennis aboard. He was an integral part of their sound and it would be fitting to see the guy on stage with them again. Seems pretty simple to me. And I don't give a shit how uncomfortable they feel. This is about the fans and ending this thing right.

With all due respect...it hasn't been about the fans in almost 10 years. Why should that be a consideration now? I am not being a smart aleck when I ask that. These men clearly prefer things the way they have played out...well at least those in control do. I am a big Dennis fan, very much enjoy his show as is. But whatever your perspective, the band his diluted an already dwindling fan base. The fans? That's sweet...but it just hasn't been about them in ages, both with Dennis in the band, and with him out of the band.

I'm in this "generation" and Styx shows do not draw young people like a Leppard, Journey, or maybe even an REO show would. Agreed, Dan.

Bingo, Sadie. There is NO reason to believe that anyone, beyond a very small measure, would care at all about Dennis rejoining. The nonstop touring has diluted the appeal of hearing the music performed with Dennis back in the band, IMO.

DDY really has found his new path and I don't expect him to stray from it now. And, boy, is that ever fine with me!

Because when Dennis was in the band, it was always about the fans. That's why we got the Kilroy tour.

Did you not see my last statement? It was long ago established that it was a business and NOT about the fans. Not with him in the band, nor without him in the band.

I too have never seen Styx with Dennis, I've listened to them, bought their albums, followed their activities, etc for over 30 years and For various reasons, I never saw that classic lineup.

But, I'm not so sure I'd want to see it now. I'd want to see it from 25 years ago, but not now. I think that it is too late, not that I wouldn't buy the tickets, but I think it's time has passed.

Is he your secret lover?
No, he is not my secert lover, not the way you diss on him one would think he is your ex-lover!
I'm just givin you a hard time, pulling your chain (hold on that may not sound right, but..) about leavin. If I disliked you so, I wouldn't have tried to help you download the Dennis show I had, I would have told you to figure it out yourself. I would not have offered to send you a cd since you couldn't get it downloaded. You never gave me your address to mail it.
But making me happy if you leave, no. Just wish you wouldn't be so anal about Gowan and Dennis. It is 10 years in the history.

Do you really like Gowan that much? Yes. Not as much as Dennis. But Gowan is a good "team" member of the band. Hard to judge anymore since he has only written 2 and sang on 2 songs that he wrote from the only studio cd of new material since he has been in the band. I do not like the way he sings all of DDY songs either. But I didn't like the way Glenn did all of Tommy's songs. Gowan is a great keyboardist, I like his playing.
Do you want me to go and have Gowan stay?
Again, no, but Gowan isn't here causing problems. I know not everyone is happy with replacements. Look at Journey, Van Halen, AC/DC (who you like the replacement better), and the list can go on and on and on....
My point is, we have STYX and DDY as they are now, both seem happy. If DDY came back for the rest of STYX history or for one show or one tour, I would be there and happy to see them, like I am happy to see both roll thru town now. If they stay apart, I will continue to see both when they come through. This is their lives, not your or mine. Beating up other people because of like one or the other, or both, why? I hate yellow cars, but I am not going to walk up to a driver of a yellow car and say your car sucks. If you don't like Gowan, fine. But if some else does leave them be
I started a new job, in a new town this year. I came in an a lot of people liked me, started bragging on me and building me up, but some were doing it by putting the other guy down, which I told them "if you want to say something good about me fine, but don't make me look good by putting my fellow co-worker down, I would rather you not say anything at all about either of us then."
