The other day a friend sent me the Dennis version of Boat On The River
and then the original with the group.
I really liked them both but for me I think Tommy's was a bit stronger.
Does the band still play this one?, it's great song.
I thought Dennis did fairly well (I wish the man would play the accordion more). Tommy's rendition is better, but I think that has to do more with it being complete with the band. The mandolin is a great addition to the song. It is one of my two favorite Tommy songs. I believe they used to perform in concert, but I don't think they do anymore.
I agree with Sadie here on all counts. It was odd hearing Dennis sing this song solo, but, of course, he could sing the phone book and sound good.

That song hit on all cylinders, in my view, with the Classic lineup -- the accordion and the mandolin, plus the Tommy/DDY harmonies were just off-the-hook good. It was such a different song for Styx to perform, but, it worked! It is one of my favorites as well.
(And it looks like we have officially shot this thread to hell -- or to a better place -- depending on your point of view. Sorry Toph!)
