It reminds me of when Noriega (sp?) was holed up and the US Marshalls were trying to drive him out to surrender by playing the loudest rock and roll they could find. One of the songs they played was Renegade.

God, saw part of a Barry Manilow (part was all I could stand) special on PBS the other night.
Dude, seriously, put the Botox needle down!

He doesn't even look real. And talk about a Vegasy/cornball show, ick. I kept expecting Waylon Flowers and Madame to come walking out with Steve and Edie. Seriously, a show for 80 year olds.

I've seen Barry in concert 3 times. He puts on a great show - very family oriented - the age range was from about 6-76!

He may look like Revlon poster child, but he can still sing - so many of his songs are classics. Not to mention, there's plenty of hot women in the audience at every show I've been at.

I've got a wide range of musical tastes - classic rock will always be at the top of my list, but I'd still see Barry in concert if he was in the area...

No offense to you CR but Sorry, his singing has absolutely NO soul whatsoever and his over pronunciation makes Dennis look like an Ebonics scholar. Of course he can still sing... ever hear the guy hit a high note? NOPE. Seriously, the whitest performer I've ever seen. Kind of like Donny and Marie rolled into one guy. I just can't believe how famous the guy is. If Sigfried and Roy were musicians, they'd be Barry Manilow. Blech...

I've always heard good things about his live performances, but I broke down and bought a double live CD he put out a few years back, and I wasn't impressed. First off, I'm not one for medleys, and he either does this or abbreviated versions of most of his hits! It's kinda funny because I would imagine he's doing what we diehard fans wish Styx would do; he seems to be rushing and chopping up the hits, and then doing a crap load of rare album tracks and fan favorites, but since I'm not a "Fanilow"(LOL), this doesn't win me over. This kinda gives some better insight as to why Styx doesn't dig more into their back catalogue at concerts, though. As for the actual performance, he sounds like he's in a big hurry to get every song over with, and he sounds a little rough at times(mainly on "Can't Smile Without You", where he has two little kids come up on the stage and sing with him.. He then talks about wanting to marry their mother because he loves the kids so much..

Performing aside, I will admit that Barry has some songs that win me over: "Mandy", "Could It Be Magic", "When October Goes", and "New York City Rhythm" come to mind. He's definitely about as corny as you can get, but as DDY says: "don't put limits on creativity".. :6 Honestly, I don't really know what it is about his music that works, but there's something. A lot of his songs that I don't care for he didn't even have a hand in writing(Ironically, "I Write The Songs"), and I don't know how much of the lyrics he's responsible for in anything he writes; I believe he mainly composes the melodies.

Well, since we are on the subject....

One of the things I like about Barry is his self-deprecating sense of humor. Despite his, one has to admit, humongous success as a recording and touring artist, he never takes himself very seriously.

I like a lot of his music that is sort of off the beaten ballads track, like "Brooklyn Blues", "Daybreak," and "New York City Rhythm."

I think I can say with certainty that there are many artists who would kill to have his success record, from the 70's right up to now. He still fills huge venues and he still sells platinum whenever he puts out an album, which, lately, are covers.

What I like about Barry is he appears to be a likable, down-to-earth guy, despite the botox and freaky hairstyle.

So. I guess that makes me a Fanilow. Bring on the Mall Manilow Attack!
