New Styx Music??

Bonjour,
It has been several weeks since I last sent out a few words, so here are a few
words. We ( Styx ) have been playing quite a bit in the first two months of '09.
At present we are in the studio in Los Angeles recording a top secret project
soon to be released to a world of eager believers in the coming months... so
don't tell anyone till I give you the signal. Meanwhile, you may have noticed
that I managed to unearth a video of the " No Kilt Tonight " live recording from
back in 1996. "Guerrilla Soldier" can be seen, if you choose to do so, upon the
opening of this very website. What a big piano that was ! Pianoforte-Grande.
Next week I will be back in Toronto to host the Canadian Music Awards and at
that show I'll also be reviving a couple of Gowan standards from the repertoire.
Full band. I'll let you know how it goes after we've gone there.
Till then... Keep watching the spies, L Gowan

It seems a little too good to believe that they're doing another album, with the way they've been handling their business the last few years.

Here's hoping it's a decent release, and not another live/greatest hits package with a couple songs added into it.

btw, you broke the bond of trust by telling us about it [j/k]

It wasn't clarified if it's just the REO/Styx stuff or a genuine new Styx project. I'm guessing the former more than the latter. I'd be pleasantly surprised if it was new material, though.

This is from March 5th, and the announcement for the tour and new single preceed that. It could be the team-up single, but it seems to me that it's something different. At worst it's that they plan to record this tour and do a dvd/cd release of it possibly with some new material on the cd, or at best it's a completely brand new album. If they plan on touring by themselves anymore after this summer, it would be a wise choice to have some new material to play at those shows.

Brokeback Boy Froyed, you need anger management. You've got issues. Did he rape your boyfriend! One of these days were gonna find you in the news.

For someone who thinks Froy has obsessive compulsive disorder, you've been obsessively following his posts and responding to them, ignoring whatever the true nature of the topic is.

Instead of letting Froy get to you, just ignore him, that's what we usually do. Or we fire back with a witty, and sarcastic comment, that's more playful than anything because we don't take him seriously. Your replies however have been meant to outright insult him, and while I am not one to defend Froy, I must say bashing a member for their views [as jaded and stubborn as they are], and/or themselves as a person is not generally acceptable on forums.

If you have anything to actually say about Styx, and not just about Froy than your welcome to discuss Styx topics, but if you just keep hunting Froy then you're officially a troll, which makes you worse than him, though some other members may not agree with that sentiment.

Froy doesn't get to me, I think the post are amusing at times. I answer very few of his rants. And when I do, it is usually to point out the obvious.

I lingered around awhile before joining and have been a member for a few months now, and while, no, not always playful in nature, people's responses to Froy are usually witty taunts at best, because a direct insult does not affect him at all.

And no I do not believe I made Froy's day, because I think if someone defended him [and I was not defending him directly], he would probably be peeved as it would rob him of the opportunity to be the one to confront you himself. but that's just my guess. The only thing that could really make Froy's day [on these forums anyway] would be an official announcement of Gowan being sacked, and DDY coming back into the band.

Now getting back to the actual topic at hand; A re-recording of Blue Collar Man? Doesn't seem like that great of an idea, but you said that's only partly it? I can't wait for the full announcement!

Would a re-recording be done to capture new fans? Like making Blue Collar Man sound more like a modern rock song that the mainstream listeners of today will better relate to? That could be interesting! Like when younger groups do covers of older songs, and modernize them. But [only assuming my assumptions are correct], wouldn't it be smart to redo more than just Blue Collar Man?

oh, okay. Still re-recording stuff with a newer sound MIGHT be good to get new fans, but it wouldn't really benefit us much.

PLEASE MAKE SOME NEW F'ING MUSIC STYX.

Seriously. You guys need to make a new album of NEW songs. Not a teamup with RE-freaking-O, Not remakes of other tunes, but original, good stuff.

Cyclorama was a great record of original stuff. Come on.... get in the game.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Tommy and Jack need a new ORIGINAL album
Burtnik needs a new album that I can download and not have to send for
Damn Yankees need a new album

What the heck did Boston fans do between their records? It's ridiculous.

I would bet that Gowan's note is referring to the REO deal. Disappointing if that's what the new music is.

Maybe that's why that first Boston album sold so many copies, us Boston fans wore out multiple copies waiting for the next one. I think I have at least one copy that is so completely worn out it wouldn't even play if I had a turntable.
