The Bonnie Hunt Show performance

Who watched/recorded and then watched Dennis' performance on the Bonnie Hunt show?

I recorded it and thought it wasn't too bad, just disappointed that he didn't do anything off of his new album. After the performance of Lady and Come Sail Away, I could see that he wasn't too happy with his performance signaling that he was so-so.

Most people do not know the name Dennis Deyoung but they do know his music through Styx. I think he needed to do that short medley of styx songs while promoting his CD rather than sing a song from one hundred years. I also believe Bonnie Hunt is taped in advance so it is possible that he also played something from one hundred years to the audience that ended up being cut for time purposes.

As for the permormance itself, I thought his singing was off. He looked uncomfortable for some reason or another. What I found interesting was that in using Bonnie Hunt's band to play the chorus of Come Sail Away, do to the lack of electric guitar (or a second electric guitar), the sax player played sax for parts that would have otherwise been the electric guitar.

His voice sounded a little rough around the edges, which I kind of like.

This is very possible. Happens on GMA and the Today Show all the time.

But, as others have said, he needed to remind the audience of who/what he and his music are, thus the classics over the new stuff.

I thought his voice was a little off as well, not bad by any means - and I LOVED what the sax brought to CSA. It was a very cool take on the song.

He also played Babe during the credits.

To be fair, he did get sit down time to talk about it for a few mins. This couch time IMO is better than singing This Time Next Year or whatever else Rounder is going to try and possibly release as a single. They announced everyone in the audience was getting a free copy.

I tend to agree. Couch time - something you wouldn't get on a Letterman or Leno - is MUCH more valuable. I didn't see it, but based on my experience, Dennis is a good interview and knows how to "work it". I don't see anything wrong with not doing a new song. Plus, he didn't have his band, etc. If it was just him and piano, what was he honestly going to do?

He's not Elton where he can get away with it.
62 and he's now trying for a solo career.

Well he's had more solo albums out in the last 20 years then he's had lead singer Styx albums.. So you could technically say he's had more of a solo career then him being in Styx..

I thought he looked uncomfortable too and his singing wasn't his best that day. I don't think the band and Dennis had a lot of practice time; we all know Dennis can do better. Personally, I thought the sax in CSA was grating. The couch time with Bonnie was great though.
