Well I dunno about that, but a little later in the show there was a less than stellar version of Aerosmith's "Dream On" was definitely cringe-worthy

it wasn't that bad, although i think chris daughtr did a better job a few years back. but none of them come close to tommy. he's got nothing to worry about. ;)

danny should NOT have done Dream On. and kara is clueless. she told him to do early aerosmith instead. Dream on was their FIRST HIT! you can't GET any earlier than that! He should have done something like BTO's Let It Ride, or American Woman instead. much better suited for his voice.

kris did a safe, forgettable version of come together. allison's version of cry baby was good, but lacked the emotion janis brought to the original.

loved allison and adam's duet. they should record together. and slash needs adam to sing on his next album. didn't love his version of whole lotta love (would have prefered to hear him do gnr), but it certainly was the performance of the night.

top two: adam and allison

Agreed. Actually, the harmony parts with Kris and Danny were spot-on perfect. Very nice. It was just when they tried to "sing" the rock parts that they got into trouble. That and the fact that Danny is annoying as hell. Cannot go home soon enough and I hope "Dream On" is the vehicle he can ride on out the door. That version was all kinds of fail. Yuck!

I KNEW he was going to do Come Together. Beatles are my favs, but that song... eehhh. If he wanted to do something to put him on the map, he shoulda done Helter Skelter.

Dream On was embarrassingly bad. Felt for the guy.

Adam... sick of him. I could not listen to an hour of that voice. I can't watch him for more than 2 minutes. Did like his duo with the girl.
I think that allison was right on point when she said "Piece of my heart has been done on this show so many times". I would've liked her to do something by the TRUE queen or female rock vocalists- Ann MF Wilson. Can't stand Joplin.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Funny, when I saw your post, I thought you were alluding to something completely different:

We just downloaded "Renegade" for Rock Band 2 on our Wii. Now, this may have been discussed before, but the new downloads for this game of certain Styx songs are all Tommy Shaw songs. Now, I don't have an issue with that, but what I do have an issue with, is apparently they re-recorded the tracks - so no Dennis!

The harmonies without DDY leave so much to be desired - especially the accapella part at the beginning.
Truly a horrible "version" of this great song.

All I know is that my 7 year old son had nightmares all night after hearing one of our favorite songs 'Dream On' butchered by Danny

That rendition was pure torture!!

The original version of "Renegade" is impossible to beat. Starting with the crystal pure harmonies done by the classic lineup, through the yell by Dennis, to the whole kick-out-the jams rock part. I love the version on the RTP DVD.

You have got to look for the "screaming cat" video of the last part of this song by Gokey (Goatkey to many of us.). It is, well, screamingly funny. I think it is on YouTube.

You are so right there, talking about cringing, how bout both of them on We are the World. Throw in a little Michael Jackson and Cyndy Lauper and you have something that we could have used at GITMO to make them all talk :)

Don't make me link Deano to this post, LOL. I do love Springsteen. Dylan not so much, outside of some select tracks...

As for the original Renegade, man, that guitar solo is just great. I can't really quite ever get what JY's doing there. It's a shame I hardly ever hear that solo because I don't really listen to the song that much any more, but anyway... killer guitar.

Springsteen...cannot sing. And while I will always respect peoples' tastes differing from mine, the man simply has no singing talent. Song writing I will cede. He has written some pretty great tunes. But puhlease...someone muzzle him and stop him from singing them. I'd say the same thing about Dylan.

And let's leave Deano to his illusions of grandeur on the board up above. No need to subject these nice people to him.

I dunno, Bruce doesn't have singing "chops" per se but to me he's got an uncanny ability to make his voice fit his songs (actually, probably in reverse order) I've never minded his singing, not on one song. Part of the Springsteen experience for me is the E Street Band and the production on all of his albums. Both are incredibly good. The production on his CDs is stellar, from guitar sounds to vocal mixing right down to the "lowly" drum sound, which a lot of people overlook. I love listening to albums where I can hear different little things every time. But hey, that's just me. No need to turn this into a Springsteen thread
