OT - Anyone catch Star Trek

Amazing movie. By far the best in many years. Made me dig out my old VHS of WOK, the other night. My kids actually wanted to see it.

Very good movie, good way to update the concept and bring it to new fans. The acting was great and the special effects were awesome. The ship itself kicked some serious butt! My favorite of all the movies.

(Showing my age here). I watched the very first Star Trek when it debuted on TV waaaaaay back in the olden days! I, and my sister, were immediately hooked and have been ever since. I have a warm place in my heart for the original series and all its varied characters.

I can't wait to see this movie as I hear it is respectful of that cheezetastic, wonderful, original series. Good on JJ!!

I saw it last night. It was a good movie but didn't live up to the hype for me. I'd rank it behind Wrath of Khan but they could take the series in very interesting directions with the new spin on things.

Wrath of Khan will forever be the best trek movie .... and perhaps Ricardo Monteban's greatest moment on screen.

That said, this movie was very, very good.

I think the franchise is in VERY good hands with JJ at the helm. I was holding my breathe about this one honestly, but everything they said about it was true, WITHOUT tarnishing the image that Gene Rodenberry had 43 years ago this fall..

This movie kicked some major whitie produced ass!

Better than Fantasy Island...never!
Wrath of Khan was a classic, not just in Star Trek Lore, but of all time lore. Probably would rank the ST series as...

1) Wrath of Khan
2) Undiscovered Country
2) First Contact
4) Generations
5) The voyage home
6) Search for Spock
7) the final Frontier
8) the first movie
9) Insurrection
10) Nemesis

Always wished they had done one with the Deep Space 9 cast.

Well.. lets... hope.. for... the...new... Trek... that... every...word...is...not... A....sentence...SPOOOOCCCCKKKKK!!!!!

(so far so good)

Saw it again last night.. still awesome..

There was one thing thought that got me thinking.. when they are talking about the Star going "Nova" it says it takes place in Romulan space..

So what is the Kelvin doing there if that is supposedly Romulan space?

Anyone?

Maybe it's before the treaty was signed to designate the neutral zone. Is that geeky enough?

Don't think so lol.. The timeline changed after Nero arrived, everything before that was pretty much the same..

Romulan wars, etc.. Pike even says "Romulus is still out there somewhere"

Jodes are you trying to say that Bill Shatner overacts?

Everytime I see Shatner I think of one of the all time funny segments on SNL when he told all the trekkies to get a life. You with the Vulcan ears, I bet you have never been on a date...

An entertaining movie... but I think the story took a lot of liberties for the sake of convenience and they really don't hold up when given thought.

Particularly, it's a bit flawed to me when thinking about how easily and in such a short timespan all these characters come together to serve on the Enterprise. I guess it would be believable in an instance or two, but for it to happen across the board is just too convenient and rushed. For example, they just happen to find Scotty... ok... but he's on the ship for 2 minutes and the next thing you know he's the ship's chief engineeer. Huh?

The other thing that kinda bothers me is Kirk gets marooned on the ice planet and old Spock just happens to be on *that* planet... ok he was put there to witness Vulcan's destruction.... but they find each other in 5 minutes on an entire planet! Oh yeah, ok... I live in town here and might not run into people for years that I know. Ummmm.... yeah, just a little too convenient. I would have preferred them introducing the characters a bit more spread out over time... in the move it seems to all happen in the span of 30 minutes so it's not very believable in that respect.

Then they give Kirk command of the ship just like that at the end of the movie... kinda strange considering he was still at Starfleet Acadamy at the beginning of the movie. Just way too convenient for me and not enough thought put into the story.

So not a perfect film, but a fun film none-the-less.
