This was also the loosest I have seen Dennis, with a lot of things out of his control like more than 2 rehearsals due to him being sick last week, not appearing to have an effect on him. When he got lost during Lorelei because he was concentrating on the piano part and Hank had to kick off the second verse with a look from Glen laughing because it is usually him that forgets where he is, Dennis just laughed it off.
I agree it was the loosest Styx related show, probably ever even going back to the early days. Extended solos on piano or guitar, eyeballing to see when/how to end songs, slightly messed up parts, a few do-overs for endings. Now, it was evident (at least to me) it got to Dennis at points and he wasn't happy about it not being as tight as it usually is, but I really enjoyed that it was not the usually every minute and intro planned thing we usually get. This is but one of the reasons why it's in my top 5 for DDY shows. I think DDY enjoyed it, but it was a bit nerve wracking for him since it was literally two rehearsals and this. I wish bands I played with could get it together this well sometimes (it happens, but infrequently). In fact, everyone on stage seemed to be having a good time. The harmonies were tight. Add a drummer and you'd almost have bizzaro Styx lol

I liken it to the Billy Joel/Elton John Face to Face tour where Elton is glued to his piano seat and Billy does a combination of sit down and lead. Dennis could certainly be more like Billy.
Nice sentiment, but I don't think it'll happen outside of shows like this. For the regular shows, it'll still be someone else.
