WOW, "Desert Moon" sounded great......kinda didn't miss Tommy D's solo at the end I said kinda

Well, not being the biggest DDY fan in the world, I, nevertheless, have to say that he sounds absolutely great. This is a beautiful rendition of Desert Moon. I really hope Dennis plays somewhere near to me as I really would like to see him. Also, I must say, it just kills me to know that this guy isn't with the band, anymore. His voice (and his style) really is great.

Not to harp on this, but DDY was just nothing short of fantastic on keyboards, from what I have seen in these vids. The piano run at the end of Desert Moon was just beautiful, preceded by a really lovely guitar solo from Jeff Watson. I am running out of adjectives here. "Desert Moon" is one of my favorite DDY solo songs and those guys sure did it justice at that concert from what I can tell.

The piano was absolutely wonderful. Despite all my bitching about DDY's "ballad crap," I really find Desert Moon to be a beautiful song and it was particularly beautiful here.

On the other hand, "Mr. Roboto" was just ....ugggghhhhhh.... as terrible sounding (in fact worse) as the first time I heard it all those years ago.

P.S. As it turns out, he's playing in someplace called North Lawrence, OH at Clay's Park Resort. After googling (not binging) this, I've learned that this is only about 45 minutes from me, but, I must say that I've lived in NE Ohio my whole life and I have no idea where in the hell or what in the hell this place is. DDY is really hitting the big spots, I guess. Oh well, I guess on July 17th, I'll find out about North Lawrence

Terrible Edith Bunker sounding

Froy, I don’t appreciate you bashing DDY's show like that!

Traitor. LOL!

Funny you should mention that because at that point in the concert in New York I leaned over to Ron's ear and said that this was the part where I missed Tommy. He wasn't surprised and actually refrained from rolling his eyes, probably out of politeness for my sake, LOL!

Not to say Jeff wasn't good, he certainly was - no question there. Flyin' fingers aplenty!

You know what I found really, really, cool was to watch Dennis playing keys. The club had a camera on Dennis from the side so you could see him playing on the two screens on the side of the stage. You don't get to see that often.

You are in luck.
The Clay's Park Resort is famous for their Whammer Spammer.
And what is that you may think?
The best Spam sandwich with sauerkraut and Grey Poupon,in the western hemisphere.
At $4.39 we are talking a bargain here.Enough for 2.
Oh, enjoy the show.

Imagine that, 43 years of living here in the Heartland and I've never heard of, nor sampled, the Whammer Spammer. All those concerts, Indians games, Browns games and Cavs games and no Whammer Spammer. LOL.

I've been everywhere in this state to see shows, I can't believe that I've never heard of this place. You can actually camp there over that weekend and see 3 days worth of shows (Kansas and .38 Special, no less). Of course, I'm not a camping type of guy (more of a Four Seasons with room service type). I think Survivor is opening up for DDY, so this should sorta be like going into 70s/80s rock purgatory.

Hard to believe the last time I saw DDY he was at the Richfield Coliseum playing to 20,000 plus fans (ah, '81, the glory days). Although, then, I couldn't get a Spam sandwich and enjoy the show. LOL.

Of course, the last time I saw Kansas (sometime in the mid 90s), I saw them here in Youngstown and they played at a hall that usually holds wedding receptions and corporate parties. It was very odd because I recall being backstage (it was really just a room off the hall's kitchen) and smelling wedding chicken and green beans. I somehow conned some kitchen employee to get me some food (where it came from, I don't know). Seeing all these once proud and great artists in these strange places sure makes me feel old.

All the vids that I uploaded from the New York show have been removed or disabled by YouTube due to a third-party notification by Babe Inc. for copyright infringment. The links put up by StyxNH seem to be gone too. None of the other vids that I've taken of Dennis and the band have been taken down, only the New York vids.

I'm thinking that means one of two things; first, that Dennis was not happy with the performances and does not want them disseminated, or second, that there might be the intent to capture this acoustic set on film to sell at a later date and he does not want them disseminated beforehand. Hmmm . . . interesting.

I hope all is well.

omg, I can only imagine if this had been an acoustic STYX concert that had gotten removed for copyright infringement! Ash would be getting blisters on his fingers typing that open letter to JY to tell him what he really thinks of him! haha

all 11 of patti's vids were also removed due to "copyright infringement", which i find totally bizarre, because 2 weeks ago, ddy was raving to glen about the "all in a days work" vid from 91 that i uploaded. i don't think this is coming from ddy, perhaps it has to do w/ A&E.

hmmm... the plot thickens

Hmmm, I didn't think of the A&E angle, that could play into it. It's undeniable that there are lots and lots of live vids on YouTube of Dennis that he has done nothing about, so there's got to be something at work here other than simple infringement. But this has to be coming from Dennis on some level because Babe Inc is his company. The question is, why?

If they want to remove them from Youtube... fine. Just upload them to facebook and skip youtube altogether. Pretty pathetic.

Besides, if they're not singing a song, then there is no copyright as there is no law against videotaping someone on stage. Some of those are videos of banter, not a song.

Considering Suzanne was sitting there videotaping the whole show, I find this ..... pretty cheap.

Why...Ah, the age-old question.

I also thought Babe, Inc. was his company too (I mean, really - who else would want that name?). Still, I don't think there's a whole lot of legality to it,unless the club itself has a strict policy on videotaping inside (we OWN the footage after all). If that was the case, perhaps they got onto Dennis about it, and he took it down...but why wouldn't the club just take it down themselves? It doesn't make any sense.

Ash wrote:seriously.... kiss my ass.

Seriously...not tonight. I'm too busy laughing.

But you did raise an interesting suggestion that I too almost made regarding moving the videos over to Facebook or Myspace. The problem is, what's to stop the Babe Patrol from swooping in and taking those videos down as well? They'd have to be posted under secret code name or something...and even then, I'm sure *someone* from here would learn the code and pass the info onto the DeYoungs (or whoever the mysterious culprits are).

Good luck! We got your back! (well, some of us do, anyway) :-D

Well, they were nice while they lasted. :? I will say -- from super 8 to videotape -- Suzanne has long recorded Dennis' performances for their own personal record. I doubt she was planning to upload what she recorded to YouTube.

I doubt anyone knows the real story other than those who requested the vids be removed. Speculation can abound here and elsewhere.

It certainly isn't the first time interested parties have had videos taken down from YouTube. Even Dennis mentioned in one interview that, I believe it was the Roboto video, had been removed, but had been the most-viewed of Styx videos before that happened. (Of course, it is back up again from someone else).

When I was at the show I had my video camera which they told me to turn off at the behest of the "promoter".

Of course, they didn't tell any of the - no fewer than - 8 people around me who were taking pictures and video on their cameras to turn theirs off - so who the hell knows.

Then, Suzanne is in the front row video-taping the whole thing. Now I get it.... that's his wife.... and yeah, Babe, Inc is DeYoung's LLC - but.... whatever. Do they REALLY think they can keep someone from posting this video on the web? Hell, I'll put em on a web server for people to link to if people wanna get that way about it.

Pretty petty tho. Dennis has openly talked about YouTube and the availability of Styx videos and their popularity. What they're trying to accomplish by this is anyone's guess.

Videos on Facebook I believe are limited to your friends. The privacy of those can be set in your preferences. If I wanted to make a "Here Are My Videos From New York So Suck It" group and post them there, I could limit it to only people I allow to be in the group.

At least I think so. I've only ever posted one video there and I took it down at the request of a friend who was in it :) (sometimes, you DO have to cowtow).

Like Zan would say, here I am replying to my own post, pretty pathetic!!

Anyway, I only posted the straight facts earlier because, like it has already been said here, any guesses as to why could only be pure speculation on my part. It's disappointing for those of us who uploaded videos but that's the way the cookie crumbles sometimes.

It's a terrible song and does not even translate to an acoustic-setting. Hopefully, he'll drop it and put something else that's more fitting. Jesus, bring out "Jennifer" or something. THAT would be great. Roboto isn't a 10th of the song that is.

Add Grand Illusion Light Up Lorelie and RTP to that list
Dennis needs to get creative and stop playing the same damn songs
Your right Call Me, Beneath The Moon, Jennifer, Father OSA , This Old Man , Goodbye To Roseland are all better songs for this type of show.
I would also like to see a better looking group of guys up there
Dawn Marie instead of Hank -Edith Bunker, The whole thing looks sloppy IMO thrown together

What song are you referring to in particular that's so awful?

According to Glen, the audience LOVES it when they've played Roboto - every time. Granted, it wouldn't be MY first choice of requests, but then again, neither would half of Froy's personal favorites. ;-)

I think when Ash gets his open letter to James Young together, I might send a special request list to Dennis as well.

Here's what I think would be amazing to hear live in a Glen/DeYoung setting:

This Old Man (gotta side with Froy on this one)
Clair De Lune/Ballerina (I don't care what people say, that song is beautiful)
Pieces of Eight
Suite Madame Blue
Born For Adventure
Best of Times
High Time (again, I don't care how gay it is, I love it - guilty pleasure and all)
Paradise
Goodbye to Roseland
1 or 2 off 100 Years - can't really decide what would work best for acoustic
Outside Looking In
South Bound Ryan
With Every Heartbeat
Come Sail Away (because it's really a crime not to)
Castle Walls

Glen stuff:

Bam!
Day Your Ship Gets Through - omg, just thinking about the harmonies on this has me all quivery
Palm of My Hand (always has me quivery)
All in a Day's Work
Another
Hold That Thought (because it rules)

4 or 5 Beatles tunes, maybe:

Nowhere man
Ticket to Ride
Let it Be
Should Have Known better
Baby's in Black

That would be pretty damn stellar.
[/quote]

roboto was terrible. Doesn't belong at a gig like this and it just sounds dopey.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.
