Michael Jackson connection to Styx

Postby Toph » Sat Jun 27, 2009 1:35 am

How does Michael Jackson connect to Styx? In 1983, Kilroy (and a few other albums) as well as Mr. Roboto (and a few other popular singles) couldn't hit number one on either the Album Chart or the Singles chart respectively. Why? Well, there was a little album called Thriller by MJ that wouldn't let go of that number one spot...and there were a few songs...Beat It, Billie Jean, etc. that wouldn't loosen their grips on the #1 spot on the singles chart.... Michael Jackson was the ultimate blocker on the charts - no one could get to #1 during the domination of Thriller and its 7 top 10 singles! Think about it - he had almost as many top 10 singles on one album that Styx had...for a career!

And if Styx would have been on CBS, Columbia or any other label then A&M, I'm sure they would have sold more records.. Just look at Foreigner, REO and Journey..

I'm actually still in shock over his passing.. He was SO big when I was a kid.. then he turned into the freakshow we all know.

Sigh..

It is too bad...but I have to admit I am not shocked at all. Kind of weird, but it didn't surprise me the least bit.

I really have no idea, but it appears his life was a living hell. I hope he has now found peace.

Much of which was brought on by himself.... Sad to see the guy die, but let's not forget that he wasn't exactly a saint....

You don't pay 20 million dollars to the family of a kid who claims you molested him and get to be called a saint. You also don't claim that you sleep in the same bed with children who are not related to you and it's a beautiful thing. Sorry He's gone, He was a great talent, but his off stage life left a lot to be desired.

Van Halen have mentioned this about their 1984 album and that they finally got a number one album with 5150.

It affected a bunch of "big time" releases from early 1983 into 1984...

I admit, I owned a copy of Thriller and was watching the Motown show the night he did the moonwalk. I thought I was watching some sort of a camera trick or something, amazing. Didn't Lukather and Van Halen play on Beat it?

Maybe JY can moonwalk across the stage in tribute.
