OT: My new radio show We Will Rock You

Postby Rockwriter » Fri May 22, 2009 3:11 pm

Hi everyone:

Since so many of you have supported my book, I wanted you to be some of the first to know that today I signed a deal with Global Talk Radio to produce a talk show for them. My show is called We Will Rock You and will consist of my in-depth interviews with rock music personalities. I can't make a definitive announcement yet, but I CAN say that I have already tentatively booked a major name guest for my debut show, which will broadcast within the next month. I am very, very excited about this opportunity. I can't wait to get going and to bring some great interviews to you, and especially in an audio format! Are you kidding me? This will let me put my inner geek to work.

I can vividly remember being a teenage kid, listening to Rockline in headphones when my parents were asleep (and I was supposed to be). I would try and try to call in when Tommy Shaw or Dennis DeYoung were on, or Yes, or Triumph, and so on and so forth. I never did get through, but I have gotten to interview a lot of those people in my writing career, and now I'm going to be in a position where some other teenage kid is going to be sitting in his bedroom with headphones on his laptop, trying to call in to talk to guests on MY show. WOW. I'm such a lucky bastard, and many of you have contributed mightily to that luck. Thanks once again for that.

I am still looking at ideas for guests and would welcome any input that anyone has as to what you might like to see. Post here or email me privately at sterlingwit@aol.com.

Thanks, I hope all is well.

All kidding aside, I'd imagine both would be professional about that...though I wouldn't wish that one on anyone.

Sterling, good luck and much success.

Thanks everyone for your sentiments and suggestions. I'm pleased to see that we're on the same page, as I'm already working on quite a few of the artists you suggested. I will be ready to make a more formal announcement soon, but I'm very pleased indeed with my debut guest and working on quite a few others.

Thanks again, I hope everyone is well.

I remember listening to those shows too. Seemed like the only guys that go through on the phone lines sounded like Beavis and Butthead..."I remember one guy asking Dennis about the link between UFOs and the song Come Sail Away". I wish I could remember his response, it was funny.

I think that was for EOTC. I don't remember what he said to that guy, but I DO remember some other guy called in and was talking a mile a minute, asked maybe four or five questions all in one big run-on sentence, and when he finally paused Dennis deadpanned, "I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?" LOL, funny as hell. That was also the night JY was talking about "Homewrecker" and he said, "It's kind of a 'Fatal Attraction' scenario, but it's not about me . . . actually, it's about Dennis!" LOL. I probably still have that on tape. I used something from that in my book, as I recall.

I hope all is well.

What about Roger Waters?

Ask him to do another "Live Wall" show in the states, similar to the Berlin show in 1990. :D

LOL, Roger Waters . . . nothing like setting your sights high. Waters doesn't do an awful lot of interviews, and I daresay my little blog is not on his radar screen, but maybe one day when I am getting 5-10 thousand unique hits a day I can ask him. He's supposed to be a difficult interview, but hey, I've had those before.

I hope all is well.

Steve Perry, hmmmm . . . been a while since he's had anything to promote. I WISH I could interview him. Pink? Gotta be honest, I don't know much about her, I'd have to work pretty hard to get up to speed on her enough to deliver an interview worth having. I DO need some women, though. I've got Lita Ford tentatively lined up for a bit later this summer, and I'm trying to work on Nancy Wilson right now. But I can always use more ideas/suggestions for female guests.

Thanks!

OT: Bill Bruford interview now playing at We Will Rock You

Postby Rockwriter » Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:34 am

Hi:

Wanted to let everyone who might be interested know that Part One of my in-depth interview with former Yes/King Crimson/Earthworks drummer Bill Bruford is now playing at http://www.wewillrockyoublog.com/2009/0 ... -part-one/

In this segment we discuss Bill writing his autobiography himself without a ghost writer; background in writing prose; process for writing the book; working with form and content; working with an editor; using his life story to illustrate larger points about the music business; frequently asked questions; and fan perception of the music business vs. the realities of the business.

Thanks!

Rik would be great! He was in my first book 'Unsung Heroes of Rock Guitar', one of the best interviews in there.

Thanks.
