Don't count DDY's album out yet - should get a big push by being on A&E's Private Sessions.....you know, the show that dumped Styx once they learned that they could get DDY instead....

Hopefully Dennis will be smart and play at least 3 songs from the new cd. Can't help a cd if you don't play anything off of it.

Here's a little somethin'.

When sitting at the Pai Gow table in Bill's Gamblin' Hall for hours on end while in LV this past weekend, I heard the House Band play I am a Walrus several times. The interesting thing is, they nailed the Styx version, not the Beatles, right down to Gowan's big finish.

Coincidence? Don't know.

That's all. :)

See, this sort of retort is what keeps me coming back here. The reality check here is that neither Styx nor Dennis DeYoung are going to light the charts on fire with new material. Ever. Period.

So yeah, I agree. And I don't think anyone in the band/s is expecting any miracles either. Let's leave that to the bathwater drinkers.

The only thing that sells albums (CD's) these days are relevance and MOUNTAINS of promotion. None of those things will either Dennis or his former band get -- to echo Zan -- Ever. Period.

Private Sessions is a nice showcase, but, other than the honor of being included with some of those famous musicians and actors, nothing will come of it other than an hour of enjoyment for fans of Dennis. He is not going to sell any "100 Years" CD's from that show because likely the only people watching will be those that have it already.

You would be surprised at the ingorance of some music fans nowadays. I was at a festival concert in June where Dennis played and people were really enjoying the set and nobody around me even knew he had a new record out. They said they were going to buy it at the merch stand only to find out it wasn't at the merch stand and then he played nothing off the record in his set. His backdrop was the album cover and he still did not play anything off the record. He did not play anything off the record on the Bonnie Hunt show. What makes us think he will play anything new on Private Sessions. If he does he will see a bump in sales. It might not be Top 200 type of stuff, but it will move units.

To people who say Styx has gotten stale and, I don't disagree on the whole, at least Styx makes an effort to promote new stuff. When Brave New World was out the played some material from it for almost 3 years. When Cylcorama came out they played stuff for almost 3 years even on a package tour with restricted set times. They played new material on Regis too. They play Big Bang stuff for 2 tours and the record charted in the Top 50. They even played the new songs from CYO for quite a while.

But how many of us "old timers" have been saying this to deaf ears ... well, forever? 2009 is not 1978. People just need to get over the obesession with chart status.

I gave up on it in 1999. They had momentum, they were "reunited" for a new CD, and no one would play any tune from BNW. The only station that didn't laugh at me when I requested a song from BNW was the alternative local station and probably the only reason they didn't laugh was because they were too stunned any one would ask for a Styx song.

I think I gave up sometime after 1995 when "Lady" was re-released. I remember nearly falling over in a parking lot when they were playing "Paradise" over the PA. Of course, I didn't realize it was probably piped in tapes, not actual radio.

I sometimes wonder if they had stuck it out in the 80s, rather than have 8 years of...well, nothing before they regrouped, if they might have recovered from the Roboto stigma and had at least a little more of a career (I'm not saying they'd be like Aerosmith or anything, but a hit single here or there, like Duran Duran did in the 90s.)

Whatever. The chips fell where they did. At least we got Burtnik and Damn Yankees out of it. I won't complain.
