Sorry, but Kiss is a joke to me. Them before Styx? Journey? Cheap Trick?

Seriously stupid.

All three of those bands you listed opened up for KISS.

All three of those bands didn't reach the success that KISS has.

Those three bands you listed were mainly successful in the U.S. KISS is an internationally successful band.
KISS played to far more people in far more countries than those three bands.

KISS also influenced far more musicians than those three bands.

Wow, you dudes rock, kiss army!!!

That being said, Zander is awesome, DeYoung needs to rejoin Styx.

Agree about Zander. And, no, DeYoung does not need to rejoin Styx. He is doing just fine as is.

Bugsy
Change your hairdo. Change your name.
Congratulations! You're still the same.

Credit where credit is due.

Paul and Gene the dancing machine made billions with a few buckets of paint ,a scoop of fake blood,a few pyros, silly outfits and maybe 10 OK songs.

10 o.k. songs?

They've sold 100 million lps worldwide.

They're the American rock band with the most RIAA gold lp awards.

KISS was signed to Casablanca Records due to their music. Neil Bogart, who later found out that KISS wore makeup, tried to convince them to drop the makeup.

It's all about the music. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

If quantity equals quality, yes you are correct.
Main thing is that you are happy with the product.
I have seen Kiss 3 times and and first time was OK,but must admit that I felt ahem a little underwhelmed the last 2.
Tell you what.I'll see if I can find my Hot in the shade album and give it another go.

Which lineups/tours did you see when you saw them in concert those three times?

I saw them first time in 76.European leg of the Destroyer(album, which I quite liked) tour, with no bells and whistles. The theatres played were too small for their big production.I saw them in Copenhagen in a 1000 seater.Nice and raw with just lights and suits.
Then I saw them in 80.No idea which album they were touring. This time in a 4-5000 seaters, also Copenhagen..Full house with Iron Maiden warming up.
Much bigger production this time around. Now at this point I was diappointed with their material which I had heard at a friends and it didn't help the show.Gene's big stunt of the show ,was standing on top of one speakerstack during his solo. All of a sudden all lights go out for a second, and when they come back on,he is standing on the stack on the other side of the stage.
I don't know exactly what made this a disappointment, but I think the 'gravy' as you call it just covered up for not very good songs.
Last time was at the the Psycho Circus tour.Got a free ticket.I felt exactly the same as the second show.Too much flash, not enough substance.
You call it gravy,I call it buttmunch
Maybe if I had seen them in their no paint/silly costumes period,I might have liked it better.

I take it you have seen them loads of times, ehh?
Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.

The 1980 concert you saw was the "Unmasked" tour, the first with Eric Carr.

I've seen KISS on the following tours:

Lick It Up
Animalize
Asylum
Crazy Nights
Hot In The Shade (3 times)
Revenge club tour
Revenge arena tour
KISS Konvention (unplugged show)
Alive/Worldwide (reunion) (3 times)
Farewell (3 times)
Rock The Nation
Alive/35 (today in CT and Monday in Boston)

Also saw Paul Stanley on his 1989 solo tour and saw him twice in "Phantom of The Opera".
