Now they are saying their was a basket attached to the balloon that had the 6-year-old boy in it when it lifted off, and it became unattached. At one point the balloon rose to 8,000 feet. His older brother saw him in the basket when the balloon lifted off.

CNN and MSNBC are both reporting that this is George Bush's fault.

Fox News is reporting that Obama lured the boy into the balloon with an offer of free government funded healthcare.

I'm just reading that part too. "Police say there are pegs on the bottom of the aircraft that indicate that a box was attached at some point."

Now they are saying that a sheriff's deputy saw an object fall from the balloon - possibly the basket - when it was high in the air.

Either way, the parents should be on their way to the electric chair. This is either a monstrous hoax or their kid is dead. Massive negligence on their part either way.

Dan's not just internet judging!! He's sentencing too!!!  I'm sure they will be held accountable in some way. Though losing a child is a pretty steep punishment in itself.

May I ask, if this isn't a hoax, who was supposed to be charged with the grueling task of KEEPING A FRIGGIN' EYE ON A 6 YEAR OLD when he was climbing into a gerry-rigged hot air balloon?

Now they are showing photos of an object falling off of the balloon on CNN. Looks like the kid is toast.

Who is ever responsible for these kids who end up gone too soon because of negligence. I don't get people sometimes.

I am not judging these parents right in the midst of this tragic event. We don't know the whole story. They have probably just lost their child. They are in a nightmare, hell right now. Sometimes good people, parents make a horrible mistake and tragedy happens. My prayers are with the family. Have some compassion.

Having been a mom of two boys, I can vouch for a fact that they can move like lightning, and be in the most amazing (and often scary) situations in a nano-second. Should the balloon been better secured, absolutely. Should any of this happen in the first place? No.

But for fucks sake... this is a child we are talking about here. If indeed the "box" fell, and the child was in it, he fell about 7,000 feet to his death. Christ, I bawled like a baby when I heard what happened to Eric Clapton's son (who fell out of a 30 something story window). My kids were that age at the time. I couldn't stop crying.

Empathy, people... empathy.

Yes, they can move very quick, granted. That means if you know they're playing in the back yard with a fucking inflatable mad scientist balloon contraption you don't so much as blink! That's no different than leaving them alone with the family rottweiler, going up to have sex while the fireplace is open and burning, or leaving a sharp knife on the ground with a kid crawling around.

You're absolutely correct!!!
It pains me to say this....and I don't know if I can (I think I'm choking) SJ is ah, kinda sorta correct!!
BUT, as someone else stated...if that boy dies, there will be no worse punishment for those parents!!!

I'm not saying that the parents are not culpable, they are. I would imagine they are flaying themselves over their lack of judgement and complete negligence. And at the the same time, I have empathy for them. I could not even imagine having to live after losing a child like that. Losing a child this young is hard enough, but this way....

I have empathy for them for their loss if the worst is true, sure. The same way I'd have empathy for a guy that got drunk and got his wife killed in a car crash. Doesn't mean he doesn't deserve to be called the fuck out.

I guess I'm not thinking so much of the parents, but rather the sheer terror that child had. Parents have to learn to live with this. Either way, this thing sucks beyond all.

I can't even imagine the terror he felt. Can't even imagine. Unbelievable. That's why I'm so mad about it too.

*ring ring* "Hello, Channel 5 Action Team? There's a kid floating around in a hot air balloon!"
"Great! Sweeps!"

----

"Guys get me the chopper in the air right now...! We got a floating kid!"
"Where boss?"
"...I don't know. In the air!"

----

Checking your facts and creating a hype while some bumpkin UFO hunters punk you... FAIL! The boy was at home the whole time.

MEDIA HYPE AGAIN. 8)
