I'm not hating on the band...I'm just saying...deals help and the band (Walmart) giving the fans a deal is a good thing...good for the fans (cheap) and good for the band (high initial sales).
Sheesh...make a comment and get chastised for it...

Revelation's back on the charts too well more than a year after release is it far out enough yet not to dismiss those as "high initial sales?"
I didn't dismiss anything...just talking about the DVD...but as for
Revelation (which IMO isn't "bad", just "not bad"...if that makes sense) reappearing on the charts, send thank-you notes to Oprah for giving them the spotlight once again...and before someone says it, being on Oprah is not a bad thing either.
Ya'll sure are a sensitive bunch...

I totally acknowledged the Oprah stuff. You just got caught in the crossfire or the "Line of Fire"
Good one...
Obviously several hundred thousand people still care about Journey and are enjoying their current resurgence...more power to the band and the fans. I don't hate the band or thier success or the fans for enjoying it.
But, if you ask me (and you didn't

),
Revelation's success comes down to 50% saavy marketing, 50% underdog/rags-to-riches factor. The music is good, but so was
Arrival and it tanked.
It's the American Idol syndrome. America LOVES an underdog...a rags-to-riches story.
- It's why Taylor Hicks and Fantasia won American Idol yet have no actual music careers to speak of (I don't count stage acting as a music career)...
- It's why
Revelation went Platinum but you hear not a single song (or barely hear it) on the radio.
- It's why Journey was even on Oprah in the first place...Arnel's underdog tie-in.
Were the exact same album put out w/ JSS or Augeri or Jeremy Hunsicker IN Walmart or everywhere but Walmart, and not had that YouTube/underdog/rags-to-riches marketing angle, there's no way it would have gone Platinum.
I'd even go as far as to say that if the singer found on YouTube was not from some sort of hardship background, just some dude who could sing, it would not have gone Platinum...it just would have been on CNN for a few days (like whats-his-name from Home Depot who sings in Boston).
Heck,
Trial By Fire barely went Platinum and Steve Perry was IN the freakin' band.
