Embarasing

How did the version of Miss America make Return to Paradise? It came on randomly on my I pod today and I actually listened to it all the way through. And it is awful.. JY's voice cracks the entire way through it. He doesn't even try to sing it well. JY can sing decently like on Double Life, but when he purposely cracks his voice and screams through an entire song, it is downright painful. And Miss America on RTP is painful!

I do not find fault with this song. Not he best live one out there. CITA has the ultimate live MA on it, IMO.

The best version of Miss America live was from the 1977 Radio special that had Lady, MA, Fooling Yourself and Midnight Ride.

All other live versions have paled in comparison. Regarding the RTP version- it's especially bad.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

I have to agree about Miss America on RTP. I find RTP almost perfect, but JY did not do a good job singing that song. He was screaming the entire way through it. I've heard him sing it many times in the day and he usually did a good job. Possibly it was the end of the tour and his voice was shot? Who knows!

RTP was the last day of the tour.

That makes sense. I saw that tour several times in July and August of 96 and JY didn't sound like that when I saw them.

It didn't affect DDY or TS - they sound great.

JY is an inferior vocalist. Period. If he can't handle the duties, DDY or TS should have sung the song or they should have just left it off the setlist. I doubt many people are going to a Styx concert on pins and needles waiting for Miss America...it's more something we have to endure to get to the better songs. Its the obligatory "give JY his moment out front" song...

His best attribute is not lead vocalist but he fills out the backing vocals extremely well. There would be no classic Styx sound without him. Get over your hate for JY. His voice was in bad shape that night for whatever reason...get past it.

I agree 100 percent on JY. His backing vocals are essential to the Styx Sound. It would not sound like Styx without his backing vocals. DDY, TS and JY's voices made the Styx sound all together.
