Journey was supposed to tour with the Scorpions last year but it fell through. Santana was also a name that popped up. I wouldn't put it past Neal to put a small leg of a tour late in 2010! As for the Who, I didn't think it was THAT bad, but the screams were evident. The laser show was cool though.

Are you serious? All of the "An Evening With" concerts I've been to usually have no opener and 2 1/2 to 3 hour performance by the only band playing.
This Journey tour would be more aptly called, "The space shuttle song & Rock you like a hurricane, anchored by Perryless Journey"![]()
Needless to say, I think I'll pass!!!

Love The Who. Zak was the only one who had it going on.
Pete was ridiculously terrible. He changed all his lead parts to sloppy crap and when he'd sing, it was kind of whenever he felt like it. Terrible.
Roger struggled vocally, but at least he was trying to be good. Pete was just embarrassingly bad.
Cool set. Nice to not see a bunch of phony fans on the field as in past superbowls.
The worst superbowl performance I've ever seen and probably the worst Who performances I've ever seen.
Major letdown.
I knew it wasn't gonna be great, but yikes...
I mean I was expecting it to be bad because Roger can't do anything but scream these days, so I'm not as appalled as you. Pete's guitar sounded downright neutered. No balls. Shoulda broken out the Hiwatts instead of those Fenders I guess.
I wasn't that disappointed in Roger, cuz I expected him to not have any range, but Pete... jesus, is he back on the sauce or what? Terrible and embarrassing.
I'm a huge Who fan, too bad. Nice how the scream was flown in... haha. I mean, he could barely hit those other notes and yet the scream was dead on???
Come on...
I don't usually say "hey, yer time is passed" but wow, The Who, such as they are these days, should really hang it up. The last few times I've seen them, they've been just pitiful. I remember the Stones sucking a few years ago too.
McCartney brought it though, but his co-60s (referring to the decade, not their ages) bands are not keeping it together like he is in any way shape or form.
I'm with you, I'm all for these guys stickin around and performing for us as long as possible, but when it reaches a certain point like The Who have it's just time. I'm a big fan as well. But, reality is reality. Pete was indeed horrendous. It's time to hang them up.
The Stones fuckin suck anyway so I'll defer discussing that example.
Wow, how can you not love the Stones? And I thought they were great at the Super Bowl, especially considering their age. I really enjoyed their performance.
"Considering their age"- Come on Jana. Regarding the Stones- guitar parts are guitar parts. Mick's vocals aren't that tough or rangy by any means. They would've been better concentrating on their musicianship rather than trying to be the characitures that they've become. Again, check the Scorcese movie. They're much better there. Ronnie Wood plays some great lap steel in that and Mick actually has a couple of great performances- As Tears Go By for one.
What do you mean the caricature they have become? I mean, they can't be what they were when they were younger, but they still have some edge.
Was the Super Bowl great? No. but I enjoyed it. At least it wasn't lip synching like some have done on there or others that were lackluster. There have been many shows that are lackluster. I thought the Stones' performance at least had some real energy to it.
They can't be what they were when they were younger, but Mick continues to try and be that guy. That's my point. He looks ridiculous and he'd be smarter to concentrate on his vocals than the moves. And thanks for correcting "Caricature"!
It's just Mick being Mick.I still love them, and love so many songs of theirs. And to come out with a great song a few years ago at this age of the band is great: Streets of Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnLoMQ5oGF0 Actually, the whole album is great and got great reviews. Not bad for a 40 plus year old band.

We put it under the scope though.

But keep in mind,, performances like that will also give them young folks a chance to use it as a weapon against us,.,,

Very confusing statement Rick....
so what group think can be dangerous?
and they did suck,,, but youre saying they ROCKED your house??? and you can only imagine that they may have sucked had you been inside that stadium!?
Arkansas wrote:I thought they were great...just because of who they are and they're still doing it. Daltrey was a little lame, didn't work it much. (I bet his signature scream was 'enhanced'.) Townsend tried to work it but his jacket & shirttail kept getting in the way. Was 'the show' as good as Prince or Springsteen? No, not at all. But ya know what? This is The f'ing WHO. They're way cool.
I guess the most impressive part of show, aside from the pyro & lighting effects, was the drummer, his clear drums & his colored cymbals. He kicked some serious tail.

Zak is a friggin' kick ass drummer and he's by far the closest to Moon they were ever going to get.
( did you know that Moon was Zak's godfather?!)
I'm totally rolling my eyes at all the hostility. They're The Motherfk'n Who, come on. No one ever said Daltrey wasn't having trouble lately... we all know it, but give me a break, he's a few weeks away from 66 and he's been at this since the 60s. 40 years of singing that material is bound to wear on a guy. The years that The Who weren't doing one of their many farewell tours, he was out there doing his own deal and still singing that material. No, it wasn't the best. But I have heard him do worse.
Any of you got a job performing halftime at the superbowl? Hmm. Thought not.
p.s. - Daltrey's nearly 66 and STILL at it. Credit for that, in the least.
brywool wrote:Sorry, but they DID suck. I am also a big Who fan. Always have been.
Just because they're The Who doesn't give them an excuse to be sloppy as sh*t at a nation-wide event like the SB.
Roger's voice can be excused because of his age (right Jana?). Pete's sloppiness and under-rehearsed-ness can't.
He didn't have to go out and "play it like the record". But playing in time, in key, and singing on pitch and where your supposed to... that's Bar Band 101 kids. Know your parts and above all REHEARSE.
The Who are still a brilliant band, even without John and Keith. Always have been. But they weren't tight in the least, at least Roger and Pete weren't. I'm not sure why that's okay and why I'm not entitled to voice that opinion.
The show they did for the 9/11 show WAS brilliant, not to mention friggin emotional. This one just paled by comparison. So I'm let down by it. I'm a musician and I hate to see my heroes not do well. I will again say that it was nice to see Zak doing so well with them. I wonder what will happen to him now that Oasis is no longer?

Roger's voice was crap and he acted very lackluster and not involved, and Pete sucked.
If you're comparing Roger to Mick in your voice can be excused b/c of age remark, ain't gonna cut it, Bry.![]()
Mick sounded good.
I'm not being harsh on these guys. If it was a good performance I would have been happy. I'm not usually so critical on performances, but this was NOT good for me. I lost interest.
