I agree that several factors were involved, including the desire to add some of the rest of the better known Styx songs that are winners in concert. Could there be a bit of if you do my songs, then I can damn sure do your songs? Probably. But more likely Dennis felt he needed to shake things up and he is not one for the status quo in my view.
As we have talked about on the other thread, he gets a chance to rest the voice, too, and yet still have the audience enjoy a Styx hit or two in the process.
And now he has a lot of material from which to draw, legitimately, for his version of Styx music on the nostalgia circuit, with a bit of his solo stuff sprinkled in if he wishes. He can rightfully claim that "Desert Moon" was a hit and can point out the success of "100 YFN" in (parts of!) Canada should he wish to throw that one in occasionally.
He has enhanced his options in many ways which has got to be a good thing.
Will all this bring the "real" Styx back together? Gawd, I hope not. I like Dennis solo.

The Return of the Strange Animal may also mean the return of Dennis to Styx. I like Larry in Styx a lot though so I'm torn here.

Let's say there was a Styx reunion, who would be up on stage? Dennis, Tommy, Chuck, JY, Glen, Todd ? I don't see that happening. However, I do see 4 out of the 5 listed on stage again, never say never.

I've said it all along - if DDY ever does reunite, I think Gowan would stay on and play keys. Sure, he could bring in John B, but why bother? DDY has no beef with Gowan IMO, and vice versa. The check at the end of the night would cash the same whether or not DDY is singing the tunes. I'm pretty sure DDY has no major beef with a certain Tommy Shaw at this point. What we have now - in my opinion - is really down to JY and DDY's relationship. Just look at my interview - he tends to speak pretty flattering of Tommy, but it was pretty clear in talking to him that the relationship with JY is broken.
I don't think this move by Dennis is meant to force anyone's hand. He's been solo for 10 years, why go back now? And if I know Dennis, he's more proud of starting from scratch 10 years ago and building it back up. (which he also addressed in my interview). To do all of that - and get to this point, even with the TS songs - just to force their hand? Makes no sense. That would have been a move maybe 10 years ago.
