If Dennis wanted to, does he have the legal right to promote his band with the word Styx? Meaning, if instead of touring as DDY, could he tour with his new band as something like "StyxClassics", "Styx2010", "StyxTheatre" etc, etc; you get the point- ala "Creedence Clearwater Revisited".

If so, this could get interesting.

None of us know the exact details of the settlement of the lawsuit, but my gut says no. The way he's been billing his show and how the word Styx is used is probably pretty "legislated" for lack of a better word. That may or may not expire after a period of time (which may or may not play into his now doing TS songs), but Dennis has also spent the past 10 years building his own brand. Why the hell would he now do something else?

I had always thought that "The Music Of Styx" or "The Voice of Styx" is what he is legally bound to.

Well, but for the last ten years, Dennis has been the star of his shows. With these additional Styx songs, and having someone else in his band do lead vocals on them, it seems maybe he could be moving towards being part of a band again. Would it be fair to say that the majority of people who currently go to his shows are older fans and more die hards who are familiar with the name Dennis DeYoung? How would he do if he actually had "Styx" in his title?

I'm happy with him as a solo artist, although more people would know him from Styx I think us diehards could care less either way :)

Let me also clarify that I'm not saying I personally want this to happen, but with the set list and personnel changes, the thought just crossed my mind. Probably not going to end up being the case(don't even know that he could, legally), but ya never know. Did we think he would ever start playing TS Styx songs?

Don't you think Dennis is using the name Styx in the ways he can and if he could use it in other ways, he would?

Maybe the question is does Dennis need the name of Styx when he tours or does his fans know him by his name? Could he just tour as Dennis Deyoung?

Actually I am not surprised Dennis is playing more songs. JY did it when the JYG toured back in 95 or so. Lou and Hank sang a lot of lead at his shows when they played Dennis's stuff. I'm glad to see him add some variety and mix it up. Just wait, Too Much Time isn't far away from Dennis's band.

No, I don't think it's a 'conspiracy'....It's just pathetic that he has to use Tommy's Styx songs to make his own solo shows more popular.

No he doesn't need Tommy for anything.
Just his songs.

Nice to see the purists who slagged Styx for doing Dennis' songs,
have showed restraint in not bashing Dennis for doing Tommy's.

I don't recall Styx doing Dennis' songs. They perform Styx songs, not "Desert Moon" or Hunchback.

You're right, I don't think we can call songs that he wrote, produced, sang, did the majority of the instrumentation, and published under his own music ltd as "his".

Badly worded by me,

It should have said

Nice to see the purists who slagged Styx for doing Dennis written Styx songs,
have shown restraint in not bashing Dennis for doing Tommy written Styx songs.

Hope that is clearer.

Then you'll be surprised to know that I really don't care what Dennis songs the current version of Styx is doing, I just don't care for the current line-up. I never really liked "Fooling Yourself and "Renegade" (except for when I was 5 and for some reason the song scared the hell out of me), it's nice that Dennis is shaking it up a little but if those songs disappeared off his selist I won't be brokenhearted about it :P
