I have always felt the same way about Journey's Infinity album. By far my favorite Journey album.

As Bugsy stated their is an edge to both albums that was lost with commercial success.

From the album cover to the final note of Suite Madame Blue Equinox is a masterpiece!!!

Hoagie agrees with Yogi. :)

I agree with every point made.

I do however rank Crystal Ball and GI high on my favorites. Not a bad song on GI.

1. Grand Illusion
2. P.O.E.
3. Paradise Theater
4. Crystal Ball
5. Equinox
6. Cornerstone
7. Kilroy

I have Cornerstone low because of Babe and First Time. 2 songs that really belonged on a Dennis Solo album. But Borrowed Time and
Love in the Midnight are 2 of the greatest songs Styx ever recorded. Love in the Midnight is probably my most listened to song of all time.
It just kicks ass. The vocals are unmatched and it just plain rocks.

I also really, really like "Love In The Midnight". Great song! Would have been at home on a different album, maybe moreso than that one. I love what Rolling Stone called the 'Satanic chorus", LOL. Cool arrangement, too.

The satanic chorus, huh?? That's funny. However, the only use I have for Rolling Stone magazine is to help start the fire in my fireplace!
By the way, I have read your Styx book so many times that the binding has broken and the pages are falling out! I'm not kidding, I have pages of that book all over the trunk of my car!! LOL!

Liked Cornerstone except for Eddie and First Time. The rest was fine, though Babe was pretty soft. Love in the Midnight was a good one.

Absolute LAST...Edge of the Century. I would listen to a Wooden Nickel album before EOC. What a painful album for someone who loved those 5 albums I just mentioned. I can't fully describe how this album is such a disappointment as a Styx fan. The concert was just as painful. LAME! No Tommy, John P. was so out of playing shape he was nowhere near the drummer he was 10 years earlier. Glen has some okay work on here, but it's got Dennis' hand prints all over it. During that time period, Dennis' direction for Styx absolutely sucked. The album sucked, the tour sucked and he was responsible for what was once a great band being left out in the cold without a record contract.

Funny, I saw the EOTC tour in Chicago in the summer of 91 and it was a great concert. That incidentally was the same concert that John Panozzo got married on stage :?

Yeah, I remember the write up they got in the Illinois Entertainer and seeing John's pic with the band......I think he was about that time heavily into his drinking problem. It was a great concert overall and Glen got a pretty good reception from the crowd, don't remember anyone booing or heckling him :)

I have been listening to Brave New World a lot lately. Truly an underrated gem. Not sure I could choose one favorite.

Not in total, but definitely some of the strongest. "All In A Day's Work" is the best song on that album to me (I'd probably even put it in a Top list of my all time favorite songs), followed by "Back to Chicago" which wouldn't have been out of place on an album like PT. EOTC is far from a bad album and the worst Styx album ever.

Alhtough you could say the same about both Gowan's and Glen's tracks on Cyclorama, too. I think they were better than what the other two (for the most part) brought to the table. "Fields of the Brave", "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye", "More Love for the Money", and "Killing the Thing That You Love" are among my favorites on that album. That stuff more than makes up for "Yes I Can" :)
