Going to Styx/Kansas/Foreigner

Postby Archetype » Sun May 09, 2010 12:40 am

June 24th at the First Niagara Pavilion near Pittsburgh. Anyone else here going? Who do you think will close the show; Styx or Foreigner? I absolutely hate Foreigner and would like to avoid them at all costs.

Why do you hate Foreigner, the songs?

I recently saw Foreigner a few months ago and last summer. I thought they put on a great show :)

I find nothing about their songs appealing. I was really disappointed to hear that Foreigner was the third act after it was rumored to be Journey for a while.

Does anyone know Styx's setlist for this tour? It has either kicked off or is about to. Anyone else here going to any of the shows before June 24th?

I'm going June 19th at Jones Beach, and no word on the set list. The tour officially starts on Wednesday night in Dallas, so we will hopefully know not to much after then. I'm anxious to see how the production is. Styx tweeted something about designing the video screen projections.

I'm definitely looking forward to this one, even if Foreigner has yet another new drummer this time around. HAHAH!

A lot of these venues hold 10k plus. Good to see these groups getting into bigger places. Styx got some good venues last year with REO as well.

They've played these venues on package tours before. So what's different about this tour than any of the past ones Styx has done?

Foreigner hasn't. Not to mention a lot of the bigger acts were stepping down to these size venues last year because of the economy and many second tier groups were doing even smaller sized shows.

My point was Styx, not Foreigner. Styx has been doing these tours on some level for nearly 10 years once they got through their "Evening With" phase. For Styx, this is status quo. Maybe Foreigner or Kansas gets "raised up", but Styx hasn't lost, nor has it gained, any ground.

Thanks for explaining :)

I was just wondering if it was the songs, Lou Gramm out of the band or a past concert experience that you didn't care for them.

Even though you don't care for the songs, I don't think you'd be disappointed with seeing them live, just my opinion :)

There were concerts of bands/musicians that I didn't care for, but seeing them live in concert changed my mind.

They are definitely looking at the economy and the market as to which venues they go into.

How many new songs off of Can't Slow Down does Foreigner generally play? A lot of material from that album is growing on me, but I don't know if they'll play enough of it to be worth sitting through "Urgent" and "Hot Blooded" Simply godawful songs.

Honestly I don't know.

I saw them on the Styx/Foreigner/Def Leppard tour (2007?) and then with Bryan Adams the following year (2008?). Can't Slow Down hadn't come out yet.

They came to the Fillmore Charlotte 6-7 months ago by themselves and I imagine they had enough stage time to play a few new songs. I expect due to their probable set time of 35-45 minutes that on the triple bill you would be lucky to hear 1 song off the new album in favor of 'the hits.'

Shame too, I really like Can't Slow Down.

The sound of my ass after accidentally eating a box of high fiber bars is better than Hey Jude.
