WHAT ABOUT A......

Postby yogi » Thu May 20, 2010 12:58 am

Concert featuring both DDY and Current Styx???

Sammy & David Lee pulled it off and it was very good.

I for one would go see this.

Each plays a 90 minute set. They can take turns opening up.

They could even rip into each other a little bit.

In the end this could be a really good thing.

You'd actually get a nice mix of tunes....Maybe can each dip into a deeper catalog.

Because I don't think anyone would want to hear 2 each of the common songs that they share.

They could both dip waaayyyyy into the Styx catalog and what a concert it could be.

This could be the ULTIMATE Styx fan concert.

Dennis would be playing the majority of the hits but he too could play songs such as.. Castle Walls, Queen Of Spades etc....

Glen could join both shows and really give it an 'edge'

3 + hours of Styx music and maybe the door opens a little to bring them ALLLL together.

You could trade off, but in reality I would think that Styx should open for 2/3 of the shows and close for 1/3. Dennis is the 'voice' for most of their hits so I believe that he should close most ( not all ) of the shows.

But what you could really do with this lineup is dig deep into the Styx catalog and really give their fans something unusual and their moneys worth.

You'd THINK you'd get a nice mix of tunes, but instead of playing Styx's Gowan tracks, they'd have him singing some of the hits and Dennis too. The ideal would be, let Dennis sing his hits, let Gowan sing his album tracks. Let Gowan play keys, let Dennis front. That'd be very cool actually.

However- this whole thing wouldn't be worth it if Burtnik wasn't a part of it.

DeYoung would never stand for the band playing Cyclo tracks. Styx wouldn't play Cyclo tracks because they are too scared to play anything live that's not "safe".
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

You can only play each song once.

Dennis plays 'his' hits plus whatever digging into his back catalog 100 Years From Now whatever

Tommy, JY, Gowan etc play their songs, some Damn Yankees + whatever.

Glen joins them both- Edge + Some of Edge with Dennis - Cyclorama with Styx - Some Little Suzie, Sometimes Love Aint Enough...........

The only way you can pull this off is with money. How much more money in 2010 would both pull? My guess is maybe 10-25%. Not enough to have either camp tolerate the other IMO.

Nice idea Yogi, but you have a better chance of winning the lottery 4 times in one month than you do of having this concert happen!

I thought you were going to say "What about a.... fight to the death between Deyoung and Shaw!!!". I was going to reply with "Well Shaw would tear him up at first... until he pulled back the skin to reveal that Dennis really IS a bad-ass robot who would then rip him to pieces while singing Mr Roboto at the top of his voice!".

Then I realized you were talking about something different, so never mind. Carry on....

So STYX and Denny put on a double header without duplicating any songs and reaching deeeep into their catalog.

That would be fun for about 12 people on this list.

Just get DDY the hell back in the band. Do a couple of tours and retire. Period. Time is quickly running out on these classic rock bands.

Jeeze, Yogi. I was thinking your next words after "What About A..." would be "Cage Match" not "Concert." That might hit closer to the truth.
