IMO more midtempo than ballad. Great harmonies, well played, good engineering. After 7 years, still can't warm up to this dud. It'd be the worst song on a Shaw Blades album easily.

Have my tickets, seen them every tour since '88 - always a good show. But doing all of MP wasn't a big stretch; the only song they haven't done since '82 was "Camera Eye". I won't spoil anything else, but I'm curious to see with one known gem they're bringing back. If they butcher it like the shortened version of "Xanadu", not so sure I'll love it. Like Styx, Rush has had a core set for quite some time.

I've been seeing them since 1982, yikes, that's a LONG time now that I think about it! I've never been disappointed with any of their shows. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing "Camera Eye" live too! I HOPE they don't butcher it at all!

I'd go to that just for Castle Walls.

I've seen that enough with Dennis. I'm good with not hearing it live for awhile. Superstars on the other hand ...

I still love hearing "Castle Walls" live, I don't think I could get sick of that song. As for Superstars, that's one song I would love to hear live.

Dennis has played all the songs from "Grand Illusion" live except for 3 songs, "Superstars", "Miss America" and "Man in the Wilderness". So Styx hasn't played 2 songs live from the album too, "Superstars" and "Castle Walls". I thought they played "Man in the Wilderness" at a few concerts, right?

So, both Dennis and Styx has never played "Superstars" live, right? Ever?

Tommy's thrown bits of it out there, but never a whole version of MITW from this lineup. I do believe I have a boot or two from 77 or 78 that has that song live. I could be wrong since I'm not home and not anywhere in a position to check.

As far as I know, 100% correct. Even on the GI tour, I don't remember coming across a boot which has it.

I want to hear PO8 live, man would that be awesome. Not to mention Styx would finally have to play the album version of Renegade and close the show with another song. GI live would also be pretty cool. I am glad they are finally thinking about doing this, I will head to a few shows for sure.

I was looking at setlists and Tommy did play "Man in the Wilderness" at a few concerts acoustically, but it looks like not the entire song but more than a snippet. I'll have to check my old live boots too.

Since their albums would only be 40 - 46 minutes tops they could play the entire albums of both Cornerstone & Kilroy Was Here. It would be awesome if current Styx would perform these two albums.

What I would REALLY like them to play is The Grand Illusion & Pieces Of Eight back to back. They could easily do this even as a part of a festival type lineup.

Not too bad. It had some not so great moments (*cough* Yes I Can *cough*), but Gowan's and Glen's tunes really stand out here. I know your venom for Gowan here Froy, but in this context where he's not singing Dennis' songs, you should give it a shot. He does bring a lot to the table.

I heard Fields of The Brave so what? You think that comes close to anything Dennis has done? I don't , So it sounds original big deal.
Fact is it does nothing and did nothing and never will do anything. Gowan in STYX reduces the band to 1 guy Shaw and he has totally lost it when it comes to writing new material. So they are going to regurgitate there old music now WOW and without a third of the band that did it originally, Great move guys ya figured out how to milk your fans for another year, Great job, Big ideas coming from Styx 2 these days,

They can do it just leave Im Ok Pieces of 8 and Queen of Spades alone.
Gowan will really ruin it all if he tries those,

Of all the choices, Grand Illusion makes the most sense for them to perform in its entirety, live. It is the most cohesive of all of those albums mentioned. Plus it is considered their "masterpiece" album ... well, by the fans at least.

While the comedic potential of the band performing an album they hate is intriguing, I doubt Kilroy would ever be in the mix.

I really don't see any of the other albums as potential candidates, but you never know.

Better yet the Styx and DDY camps pick up on my idea of putting the two together for shows and Dennis and his band perform Equinox, The Grand Illusion & Paradise Theatre as the closing band. Tommy & The Boyz would open and perform Crystal Ball & Pieces Of Eight.

I like the way Gowan sings.

Giving DDY's songs a Rush type flair is OK with me.

When Styx decided to move on without Dennis I am glad they choose an orginal voice and not a copy - cat.

No doubt Dennis made Styx who they are, BUT........ they are still a damn good entertaining band without him.

Cyclorama as is 100Years from Now are both EXCELLENT CD's.

They are still out there entertaining their fans so its all good.

Now they just need to combine for some shows and its all REALLY REALLY good!!!

What Pieces of Eight songs have Styx, past and present, play live in concert before?

"Great White Hope"
"I'm O.K."
"Sing for the Day"
"The Message"
"Lords of the Ring"
"Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)"
"Queen of Spades"
"Renegade"
"Pieces of Eight"
"Aku-Aku"

Ugh, I can't remember all the songs that were played live from Styx of the past. I have to look for that boot.

I think Dennis solo has only played "I'm Ok", "The Message", "Blue Collar Man", "Queen of Spades", "Renegade" and "Pieces of Eight" live.

Cause Simon was already inked by the Wayouts.

And before Aguirre was discovered layering clothes at the Gap Journey had signed Theodore.

Let Gowan sing his own songs- and on the songs he sings, have Dennis play. Let Dennis sing his songs - and on the songs he sings, have Gowan play. Have Dennis front the band... but ONLY if he changes his standard banter. Otherwise, what's the point? "We had Dreams!", "Lady! LADEEEE!!!"

And Dennis- NO white sox.
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

What about edge?

Since Tommy, Ricky, Todd, nor LG was in the band at that time, it would be the perfect setup.

Have LG do Glen's songs, Tommy do Dennis's songs and Jy do his own. :D Or you could release Ricky's inner beast and let him do Glen's songs.

I've always wondered about Ricky. Do you think he would be a good singer/frontman for a few songs?

Yup! The DORKIEST DeYoung ever looked (EVER) was in the Return to Paradise video where he does that little twirl thing and there are white sox. I was embarrassed for him at that moment....

Actually, all of 'em except "The Message" and "Lords of the Ring" I think. GWH was around for a few tours, I'm OK was at least done in '78, SFTD was done in the early '00s, and all of side 2 has been played, even just as snippets in some cases (like I believe Aku Aku was part of one of those medleys for a few seconds). "The MEssage" has been played, but taped to open Dennis shows. I could be wrong about Aku Aku.

This entire video, Dennis is just SO dorky. I can't watch it and not be embarrassed for him.

And the encore-

oh, man....

Now, compare that Dennis to the one in that Come Sail Away video or the Borrowed Time video (which doesn't seem to be out there...)

Is it possible that Dennis was secretly replaced after 1979 with a RoboDork? maybe that's what Mr. Roboto is REALLY about. Holy Crap! The clues are all there!!!!
