It started the Journey forum members were split apart, and it's been downhill ever since. I don't think it will recover. People liked being all together on the Journey forum for some reason. But Neal didn't want people speaking freely about Journey without him controlling what was being said, and MR was the largest Journey forum before the split. Apparently keeping Neal happy is more of a priority than having a kickass Journey forum.

:(

That makes absolutely no sense at all. How does Neal or Journey control the MR forums? If this were journeymusic.com, I would agree, but not here.

I think it's obvious that Andrew split the forums because so much off topic BS was posted in the Journey forum. Why even call it a "Journey" forum when Journey is hardly ever discussed?

The MR Journey forum comes up first when you type in "Journey forum" on Google. Neal and the boys obviously knew how much traffic was coming to it, and they did not like the fact that they couldn't control what was being said about them. I don't know if they ever contacted Andrew directly about it, but I'm sure they weren't too happy about it.

Whenever you split up a large forum, you will lose people. Something similar happened at Harmony Central, a very large musicians forum with over 200,000 members. They launched a new 2.0 version of the forum that was much different in nature, and everyone bailed. They even aborted the changeover after two weeks, but it was too late. I would guess that less than half of the members who used to post there are still around. Apparently when you change a forum that people get used to, some members just leave and never return.

How else can you account for the members who have left or why this thread was even posted?

:?:

You can only yell at a wall so many times before you realize that it's senseless, pointless, and a waste of time. Then people go find another wall to yell at. That's why people left.

Tell that to some of the people in the styx forum

WTF for?

So people can bitch about Gowan being a carpetbagging motherfucker from another country stealing the rightful seat of a legend, instead of Arnel?

Seriously.....both fucking bands are disgraceful shadows of their former selves....that are compared to their former selves.

Deano said it best a few weeks ago. Legendary rock icons are not compared to anyone but other legendary rock icons. When a band is compared to itself, something's wrong.

Singers like Arnel, Gowan and Hansen will NEVER achieve the greatness once achieved by Perry, DeYoung and Gramm. The vag-flapping contingent hell bent on calling me a racist for suggesting Arnel wont amount to shit compared to perry can go suck my dog's clit.

Fucking stupid band forums dedicated to bands that are laughable caricatures of their former selves should've never been a driver of traffic to a website....Seriously. Think about it....the only time sites like these (and I'm not talking about MR.com specifically....but in general, all of these various website) generate any traffic is when:

a) I come in here and piss off the race-baiters
b) Skeletor throws one of her tantrums
c) someone accuses Ed of trying to break in here....

Ugh....

I'll submit that this forum wasn't split fast enough.....not that it shouldn't have been split.

I agree with your last sentence Frank. A lot of people were already long gone way before the split. If it had been split much sooner, I think more would have stuck around just for the generic music chit chat among other things.

I think the the trigger for change happened when someone posted a link to Arnel's forum. People were running over there, seeing what was going on and setting the table where a lot of those fans ended up coming over here. After that happened, everything changed. It got to a point where you had to think about who you might offend even if you wanted to tell a simple joke. It stopped becoming about new music at that point and was all about who could sing DSB in a higher key, or had more emotion in their voice when they sang Faithfully. At that moment the competition of the band versus itself came into full swing and then started the race baiting and my singer's better than your singer and everything else that went with it.
To me, that was the catalyst which started the exodus from here. The later action of splitting the forums didn't alter anything that hadn't already been set in motion.
Loons vs wigglers was bad enough but with the addition of pinheads in to the mix, the infighting became too much and the foundation of this place was finally broken.

I am going with the yelling at the wall thing....it's getting old.

I know what Journey means to me and who made it so special.....and well it's not what a lot of people now believe.

It has become a mute point....it makes me sad, but it's the truth.

I still check in and read the boards....but I don't really have much of substance to offer anymore. I guess for me the Journey is about over. :(

Great insight Don, and I agree with a lot of what you just said. It pisses me off to no end to see someone who's an Arnel fan come in here posting bullshit about Arnel singing this song, or that song better than Perry himself. :?

I'm not so much banging on the pinheads as saying it was the complete clashing of different cultures, values and ideas. The addition of a more PG crowd here changed the dynamics of the place from being a Wild West setting where only the strong survived to more of a rigid PC atmosphere which definitely wasn't to everyone's taste, thus the mass migration out of here.

Even the official Journey Music site has suffered greatly as self appointed guardians over there look to keep any reference of Pre-2007 Journey at a safe distance as not to diminish the glow from their Idol, a stance which has undeniably killed the traffic on that site.

Yeh when you have discussed pretty much everything Journey related over & over for several years you do kind of run out of steam.

And a lot of posters seem to have disappeared altogether...........

or changed their bloody names so I don't know who the f**k they are.

is there even a forum at journeymusic.com? When I go there it just seems like a collection of journey facebook pages. Maybe I'm just banned for life, whatever...just curious if there is even a 'real' forum there.

No forum, you just make a blog. If certain groups of fans don't care for what you posted, they flag it en masse and it disappears. Censorship dictated by how many zealots are in the offended camp. The site has regular spam blogs going every day also. They used to keep it cleaned up but now that there is no tour, it's not maintained very well, definitely not on a daily basis.
