This song is simply fantastic. I honestly think that some of Dennis's best moments can be found on Man of Miracles. Golden Lark is another absolute gem. I'd love to see these songs played live someday. Definitely a severely under rated album

I agree 100%. My best buddy's older brother had this album and we used to listen to it ALL the time before anyone (at least on the west coast) had a clue who Styx was. We turned our entire block into Styx fans before they hit it big.

They were really finding themselves on that one, and it does work. I have to admit, I also enjoy "Serpent".

Serpent Is Rising is my favorite Wooden Nickel release. But evidently Denny hated it.

Well, to be fair, most of the band hated it, and their label hated it, too, LOL. It was okay in some ways, but wow, I really thought it was all wrong for Styx. And the recording quality really does leave an awful lot to be desired. You could do better demos on a 4-track. It sounds like it was recorded in a well or something.

That said, there are worse albums in the world. For me, that era had 'Styx II', parts of 'Man of Miracles', a few things from 'Serpent', and that's about it. At least half of that stuff I would not mind never hearing again.

But that's just my opinion.

I'd love to see these songs played live someday

Postby cittadeeno23 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 11:48 am

I've heard most of these songs played live back in the mid-70's. The current band will never play them live. They don't even play most of Dennis' (and the Bands) biggest hits. So there is no way they are going to play old obscure Dennis songs.

I do remember them playing Christopher, Mr. Christopher on one tour around 1975 or so because I really loved that song. And I do remember it sounding REALLY GOOD live. I was only about 12 years old, but I knew what sounded good! And I do remember them blowing the headliners off the stage. Sterling's book talks about this, and I know it to be true because I was at some of those shows. One show I was at we were standing in the parking lot after the show and all the older people I was with were talking about how Styx just blew Kiss off the stage. And they were all there to see Kiss!

Once you get past the gimmick of Kiss or are older then twelve, their act gets silly and boring.

I can't listen to GI with the exception of Castle Walls.A few songs on PO8 and Cornerstone.A few more on PT
Kilroy I haven't listened to in a million years, andEdge was just not worth listening to what so ever.

I remember finding the WN albums with those silly ass cartoon covers on them. What the hell was RCA'S art department smoking when they chose those covers? Anyway, I played those LPs to death back then. Liked them all.
