I call them the Dennis band and the Tommy/JY band. There is no more Styx. And least not right now. Maybe someday when The River Freezes over....

= STYX

Dennis- one guy from styx with a backing band (solo act)

I've sort of gone to referring to Carrot Styx as Touring Styx, since that is who/what they are now. Certainly not Recording New Music Styx.

Dennis is Dennis DeYoung. There. Is. No. Substitute.

Not that I am a big Journey fan but if Steve wasn't a major part of what Journey was then why does it seem they keep getting singers that sound like him?

It really seems like this:

Dennis DeYoung is a solo act.

Styx is really two long time members (TS, JY) calling the shots since CP is all but retired. Then you have three employees to fill out the band. If TS or JY had issues with any of the three you can bet they would be gone in a heartbeat. Styx is just a shell from what it was.

Yes, Perry was a major PART of what Journey were. However, some Perry fans seem to think that is ALL Journey was. Very much like how some DeYoung fans look at his position in Styx.

The FACT is that Herbie built Journey around NEAL SCHON's guitar. it was his playing that inspired Herbie to create the band. The FACT is also that Perry came in on Infinity, their 4th album. The FACT is also that Perry was a replacement singer himself, taking over from Robert Fleischman who was already on the way out because of conflicts with Herbie...and Perry's voice solidified it. The FACT is also that Journey did not achieve the success they are remembered for until Escape...three studio albums, one live album, and one soundtrack AFTER Perry joined the band....Perry had a lot of time to 'bring the success' and it didn't happen to the degree of Escape and how Journey are remembered.

Perry was a PART of why Journey achieved their success...but not all of it...and, IMO, not even the majority of it. It was Neal's guitar (which even Perry admitted was the 'second voice in the band'), and adding Jonathan Cain to bring the songwriting to another level.

As for your question...First of all, I don't think Augeri sounds as much like Perry as Arnel. Soto sounds even less like Perry. However, they have to pick singers who can still sing the original songs. You take someone like Tommy and have him sing "Open Arms", and it just doesn't sound right...because the song was not written for that type of voice. Even Soto, IMO, does not have the type of voice suitable for Journey. So, there is a balance there....One side is being a clone, which is what Arnel is. The other is being something completely different, which is what Soto is. Then you have the middle ground which is somebody who can cover the old songs decently and bring in something new...IMO, that is what Augeri had.

This is such a lame comment. If Dennis were back, the only change would be him replacing LG. So, according to you, they would STILL only be a shell of what they once were.

I loved JSS because he did not sound anything like Mr P at all.I would have gone to see & still love journey had JSS still been in the band.No his voice was not right for the songs. But i be darn he pulled them off.JMO! If sockboy wants a sound a like he should have kept Jeremey H. then.He was perfect.JMO

Can we not work "Bad Toupe" into Dennis' current band name???

Come On, let's see some imagination here!
;)
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

If Kobe Bryant leaves the LA Lakers, they are still the LA Lakers. Dennis does not currently OWN Styx. Tommy, JY and Chuck OWN Styx. Dennis settled so he can play the music of Styx, a musical group he was once a member of but after years of cruel treatment subjected onto the other members, the other members decided to give Dennis the middle finger salute and hit the highway. Dennis plays the music of Styx in various select cities across the US and Canada, recently adding Tommy Shaw songs into his set, and is very happy doing this. Styx continues to tour because they love to play their music to fans everywhere and they make a good living while doing it. At some point in the future when they do slow down their touring, they will create new music. Styx is in a happy place. Fans get to hear music written and played by Dennis, Tommy and JY...what more could a true fan want.

Speaking on behalf of all true Styx fans here is what I want( in no order):

1. Time to slow down
2. Obama Out- not just of the White House but the country, taking Ann Coulter & Nancy Pelosi with him.
3. Less fat
4. More hair
5. MN Twins winning another World Series in my lifetime
6. The Metrodome & Kirby Puckett back.
7. Be able to find my old: Jonathan Chance'The Board( Bored) Game'
8. Someone with ball & cash to release the singles Crossing The Rubicon & Bam
9. Secure Borders & more Tommy Shaw Borders concerts( Loved 7 Deadly Zens)
10. Dennis & Tommy sharing the same elevator again.

I have to say, unless I was seeing things, DDY make a toupe adjustment during a song. He grabbed the top right (looking at him) and pulled left, then took both hands and padded down.
