OT: For Pink Floyd / David Gilmour Fans

OK, I realize this is a Styx board. I've found over time that many of my friends that like & respect Styx also share my love of all things Floyd. Right now, on David Gilmour's Live in Gdansk microsite, is what I think is the best version of Shine On You Crazy Diamond - period. It's from the Gdansk concert (Gilmour's On An Island tour, w/selected PF songs), and was the last performance with Richard Wright. The site rotates the set list every few weeks or so.

So if you didn't already know about it, enjoy. Keep an eye out for Comfortably Numb. That version is also incredible (better than the Pulse version, if you ask me).

I think I read an interview a year or so ago with DDY where he was asked if he ever purchased, or listened to new music (or, music released currently). He said, by and large, no, but that he really enjoyed Gilmour's On An Island. He has good taste. I wonder if Gilmour would feel the same about 100 years.....

Now all we need is some new Supertramp music, and a Styx reunion (Oh wait, beat that one down last week).

Some do some don't. I find the discussion interesting and entertaining. But that is as far is goes. Haven't gone to a Styx concert since '99 and stopped buying Styx albums since Cyclo. I was just thinking what a waste for them to put out alll those live albums between BNW and Cyclo when they could have done new material featuring the new version of the band. How many live versions does one Styx fan need since the live versions do not really vary from the studio versions? As far as the current set lists, both bands are trapped. That's what the majority expects to hear and it's easy money.

the band has greatly improved the songs live from the studio recordings. on old styx recordings the drums are too low in the mix, at times the bass is too low in the mix, the guitars are sometimes dry. now with present day styx the drums are booming the guitars are rocking the bass is thundering and the harmonies are much thicker and straight. take a live version of blue collar man from caught in the act and then listen to a recent live recording, the new one is way better. the guys in styx have always been great song writers but now the playing and singing is on a way higher level

they've done 3 concert films and like 2 live cds that's it

I was laughing because of the comment about them being more of a rocking band....I really could care less what they do as long as they're happy (and i'm pretty sure Dennis doesn't either), I think that was an asinine comment because number one except for a few songs they're doing almost thee same setlist as Dennis. Number two, you can't exactly say songs like 'Yes I Can" is a rocking song (and btw i actually like that song, weird enough)

I'm pretty sure the label had something to do with the live albums between bnw and cyclo. What they've should've done is just release the arch allies thing individually right away and not in the same package.

Thank you. Have you heard the Gdansk set? It's all of OAI live, plus a number of PF tunes, including a 25 minute version of Echoes. It's by far my favorite album. Depending on which version you buy (there are a few, I think), there's a great version of PF's What's Uh The Deal - a great old tune done w/Rick Wright's assistance on keys. I can't say enough about this set. I have a 6 CD changer in my car, and Gdansk has been in it for months. I rotate plenty of Styx discs through the other 4.

For those who care, the Microsite has been rotated. A most splendid version of Wish You Were Here, and the single best rendition of Comfortably Numb, EVER (and I have a few of them). I don't care what your taste is, you can't possibly think otherwise. Oddly enough, this version is Richard Wright's last performance, which was a scant few months before he died.

So, did you ever dust it off? He does On An Island beginning to end on the first Gdansk disk. I think the live version may be better than the studio. I believe Gilmour has called it a career (aside from an appearance here or there w/others), and that's a real bummer to me.

I don't have any of Gilmour's other solo material. I need to get on the ball. I also don't have much of Roger Waters solo work - although I do appreciate most of it. I do have Amused to Death, which I think is quite good. I am in the minority of Floyd fans - I'm in Gilmour's camp. Although, I do wish I had tickets to see the Waters tour that's under way.

during the original Wall tour, Roger would be singing his opening verses to Comfortably Numb, when it got to David's turn, the spotlight would switch to the top of the wall itself and there was David, it was pretty cool. Like I said, if that happens at the concert I'm at, I'll weep like a little baby.
