I thought Cornerstone was an EXCELLENT album!! I only disliked one song, and at the time(8th grade) I couldnt figure out why Styx would record a song like 'Boat On The River'. I thought that song was aweful and I couldnt fathom why Styx would include such a song on one of their albums.
Only now do I kow it was because Tommy had 'rock in his soul and he needed to rock out'.
P.S. Now I like the song very much. At 14 though I thought that it sucked.

At the time some band members were worried about how fans were going to react to "Babe and "First Time". Just goes to show you you can't really know how fans are going to react to new material.

It probably would have failed commercially without "Babe", seeing as how there's really no other commercially viable song on there. Why do you think A&M chose that song? Because it tested well! Marketing 101. Not that difficult.

Arguably yes, but the largest market for Styx was and is the USA. BotR was not a hit here.

Did they ever try to push BOTR in the US? I can't remember. I think that they should have.

I agree with this. That, and wishing the piano had been in tune when he recorded Babe. I like it so much better played on piano.
