Paradise on Paradise Theatre?

I read on another board that Paradise was actually written during the Paradise Theatre sessions, but was not included because it didn't fit into the theme as well as other songs. I thought that was interesting. Had Paradise been on PT would that have been the elusive third single and top 10 hit that Styx never got with any album and catapulted Paradise Theatre sales wise as Hi Infidelity (4 hits) and Journey Escape (4 hit singles, 4 top 20s, 3 top 10s)?

I'm looking for real insight here and not the Dennis bashers saying how shitty it would have been to have another DDY ballad on Paradise Theatre - we all know that you are going to say that so don't waste your effort typing it. So for others, would it have worked in 1981.

As far as I know, it's Hunchback. Artists can have songs written for awhile, but I don't think this one dates back to 1980/81.

I thought the Styx version of Paradise was really strong. Had Styx produced an album full of songs the way that "On My Way" and "Paradise" were produced, it would have been a really, really good record.

Hmmm . . . like a lot of people, I had understood that was written for 'Hunchback', and in fact there was a version on there with a different lyric. But maybe THAT version was altered from the original, then changed back to be recorded for Styx, LOL, who knows? I think "Goodbye Roseland" was originally written around 1987 or 1988, so Dennis does sometimes re-visit stuff from a while back. Which is cool, actually, because good songs should not go to waste.

I like "Paradise" a lot and absolutely think it would have been a hit in 1981. I probably would have preferred to hear it recorded on a real piano instead of the keyboard it was, but I still like the recording and especially the vocal performance.

Dennis pretty much hit a peak, vocally, between mid/late eighties to late nineties. I know touring with JCS helped him learn to use his voice properly, which I feel he carries to this day. You can really hear an improvement in range in that period of time, IMO.

The song was then forgotten until Dennis dusted it off for it's return on The Paradise Theatre Album, but Tommy threw some sort of fit about 'another soft DDY ballad' so it was pulled and replaced by the'hard rocking' "She Cares".

Finally, it was once again suppose to appear on the Kilroy Was Here album Dennis had figured out a way for it to fit into the Roboto type theme. At the last minute The A&M 'Braintrust' had a revelation that disco was about to make a HUGE comback so Tommy's epic disco song Cold War was added to the album, and Paradise was pulled.

Dennis then just figured that it was not a pop/rock type song so he reworded some of the lyrics and it was used in his Hunchback musical.

Perhaps a complete different version of Paradise was written back around that time, but if you ask me the song sounds very very similar to Show Me the Way if you ask me.
