Wasn't this discussed before....and does it really matter how many people were there?

Both Dennis and Styx have played larger outdoor arenas, fairs, etc. Styx didn't play that bill alone at Red Rocks - I believe that was the Def Leppard (?) tour. It is a great venue, but put it all in context. As I've said, they are both more equal than most people want to give credit for.

Either way, it was a package tour.

The Beacon in NYC for the GI/Po8 show is arguably the largest non-state fair/free event/concert venue they've played on their own in nearly 10 years. I believe the last time they played NYC it was Roseland.

It's a tit for tat thing - Styx played <insert venue/place> to <insert number of people>. Well, Dennis played <insert venue/place> to <insert number of people>. You get the idea. People like to use attendance around here to show something. 10,000 people showing up for a free show (not one like Red Rocks) - Styx or Dennis - has something to do with Styx or Dennis, but a whole lot to do with free. People can make fun of State Fairs or Pig Roasts, but those are paid gigs for these bands. Who cares if the venue charges or not? The band gets their money either way. Red Rocks or a State Fair, they are legitimate.

On their own - no openers/tour mates - both bands generally play similar sized venues (anywhere from 1,000 - 3,000 seaters) depending on the location. Has each played bigger venues at times? Sure. But that 1 - 3k is a pretty good average.

Sure that's allot of people not there to see STYNX alone that's for sure. It's about 7pm and that is the time for an opening act which STYX was.
Look at the crowd not even getting into it at all just whistling that a band is on the stage. Why would they even put that video on that page?
Capacity about 9 thousand which is 3 thousand for each band. Don't forget Foreigner and Kansas were on this bill.

You haven't figured it out yet WHY he's on here? First he came on as "Chickenbeef" now "Born4adventure", same type of postings and somewhat repeating the same type of information.

Sheesh, who cares where either Styx camp plays and who cares to how many people. Just go and enjoy the shows.

Hey Suite babe ;) Long time... :-D

You going to see the Po8/GI shows? I'm thinking about going to see the one here in Nashville. Likely against my better judgement because I still can't get past Larry's voice..... but the Ryman is a great place to see a show, and there are a lot of songs they will do that I'd love to hear live.

Don't give Brusco or Shaw any more of your money. Play the cds back to back and support Classic Styx and not this money hungry ripoff

That is pretty much the reason for these kinds of posts around here. A sort of "competition" thing. While I don't give a rat's ass how many Touring Styx plays to, I always like to hear that Dennis, who is coming from an automatic disadvantage vis-a-vis billing and promotion, can still bring in nice crowds to his concerts. There seem to be fans who are drawn to both shows, which is good to hear, since they do get something different with each one.

Robin Gibb, actually.

Whole different thing. Night of the Proms is not the same as a package tour here. It's those artists doing a smaller number of songs backed by an orchestra. It's huge. It's not like getting a couple of bands and playing the sheds.

Dennis has done a few double bills and such, but no package tours on the scale of what Styx has done really for any tour. He just does the weekend thing basically which would preclude him from doing something like that anyway.

masque wrote:he would in a freaking heartbeat if it were offered to him.

I'm sure it has been. That said, I doubt he would. He doesn't want to be on the road all summer (for example). Those tours are like 40 dates and not just weekends. It's been his choice not to do that after leaving Styx. In his opinion it's clearly the right decision for him. Fans may disagree, though.

Hi Ash :)

I was offered free tickets for the Waukegan, IL show, not sure if I'm going. I personally can't get past Larry's voice either for these songs or the harmonies that aren't there for these albums. IMO However, I would like to hear/see Tommy sing his songs.
