Styx wouldn't be any bigger with Dennis in 2010. Sad reality to have to admit, but they would NOT be doing what, say, Rush is. They may slightly bigger venues overall, but Gowan didn't fire Dennis. I could see being angry at Shaw and Young, but Gowan is doing a job he's been asked to do. Gowan hasn't done anything to tarnish the Styx name. I think I've made it clear I don't universally love everything Gowan does. The reason we're at where we're at has to do with the three main principals: DDY, TS, and JY.

You really lost me on Todd being a horrible banger. He's quite frankly one of the top rock drummers in the business today. That's not an arguable position; it's been recognized by his peers and magazines like Modern Drummer. Dennis himself will tell you Todd is also a good drummer.

Heck, I think that if Styx had not gone through what they did from 1995 - 2000, you wouldn't have seen albums like 100 Years From Now or Dennis playing live much at all. In a way, you have to thank the breakup for giving Dennis the motivation to start over again. Is it sad we'll probably never see those three on the same stage again? In a way, but that's a fan fantasy wanting to recapture the past. I had 1996 and 1997. Good enough. Styx and its members owe me NOTHING.

Far from insane, froy. While the spinning keyboard thing is just a visual schtick thing, his running around is no better or worse than the posing Dennis did (sometimes with JY and Tommy, or both) at times with Styx and now what he does with his own band. If everyone stood behind their mic only, it'd be a boring show. Gowan doesn't suck; he's quite fine on his songs. Not a fan of him on most of the Dennis stuff, but that doesn't mean he has no talent. Two very separate arguments.

Again, two very separate arguments. Todd's drumming skills aren't even questionable. Whether he is right for Styx - that's an argument you can try. While I do feel at times he can be a bit busy and sometimes he's gone far from John's parts, he's also made his own stamp on the material. After 15 years in the band I'd expect that. As a bass player, I'd play with Todd in a heartbeat in or out of Styx.

Tom (DDY's drummer) is much less "flashy" than Todd. He's more faithful to John's parts. He is a good drummer, no doubt. I know DDY loved Kyle, but quite frankly I never felt he was a fit for DDY's band. The first time I saw Tom I enjoyed things better.

In 1983 or 1985 maybe. Not in 1999. Not in 2003. Not in 2010. I think a blending of Cyclorama and 100 Years would have been interesting. Not worth playing "what if", though. (no pun intended)

All three of them caused the break up. Between each of their own egos and wanting to "control" things it was bound to happen at some point. Face it, was JY a team player by having his lawyer write letters to his band mates with things he's not happy with rather then speaking directly to them?
