I think it's hard to claim this as an accomplishment. There are lots of bands that are still tour playing their hits from the past.
Other then that Styx has done nothing to set themselves apart from their hey day. None of their releases post the split have been more then a blip on the radar.

Still it's not a real accomplishment that sets them apart from the other bands that are doing the same thing. Now if they were to draw (on their own) the kind of crowds that Aerosmith, AC\DC etc. that may be a different story. It's not because of the band it has more to do with what is popular right now (i.e. Classic Rock Tour Circuit). It will be interesting to see what happens to them when the bottom drops out of it. When it does, maybe they should close their shows with TS' "Fading Away" from GWG. I can just picture it: Tommy asking "Would You Like Fries With That" and JY saying "Welcome To Walmart"

Still it's not a real accomplishment that sets them apart from the other bands that are doing the same thing. Now if they were to draw (on their own) the kind of crowds that Aerosmith, AC\DC etc. that may be a different story. Just listened to this interview, It's nice to hear a fill in drummer talk about Money for 30 min Yea Gowan play's his dick off but he sings like there's one up is shooter. Play the show and get paid That say's it all. Todd would rather play for 8000 drunks that 15 thousand Real Fans that says it all as well.
It may be time for Todd to move on to greener pastures as this field is dried up

Todd was just telling the truth about what is, after all, a business. Styx in the past wasn't a charity, either, was it? It's a for-profit venture like everything else people do for a living. Why do people try to pretend otherwise?

Todd was just telling the truth about what is, after all, a business. Styx in the past wasn't a charity, either, was it? It's a for-profit venture like everything else people do for a living. Why do people try to pretend otherwise?

Probably the only time it was close to a charity was the TW4 days when they probably were not making much. By the time they hit it with GI, there was pretty much no turning back. They have overhead (and they did then) arguably they have less hands in the pie now and less of an entourage helping them, but people still need to get paid. As someone who is on the road quite a bit, I can tell you whoever is on the road with them gets hazard pay. I'm easily on the road up to about 100 days (or so) a year, and it gets really old, really quick. Considering Styx plays at least 100 dates a year ... no one is doing it for free.

At $30k/gig for 100 gigs, that's $3 million. There's no way they just clear that because you can't afford management, roadies, production, and other salaries PLUS paying the principals with that after taxes.
