Ash, I didn't bait Froy, I stated an opinion. I don't think I give Froy a lot of crap, do I?
NO. He's NOT Steve F'ing Perry. But he's Arnel F'ing Pineda and I'm okay with that.

Doesn't say much about Dennis does it?

No, he's a great player because he is.

Regarding, his sticking to Dennis' keyboard parts....
Geez, everybody's whining because Todd isn't sticking to John's simple drum parts and he's adding his own touch to them.
Personally, I prefer Todd's drum parts, but that takes NOTHING away from John. I just prefer a more technical drummer.
If Gowan went off and put his own solos in, people would be all over him. Seriously, Gowan IS the better keyboard player. He's NOT the better singer or writer (at least for my tastes) but he is HANDS DOWN a better keyboard player than Dennis.

I don't know that I really agree with your premise... but for the sake of argument, I'll accept it. To what do we credit this tho? His ability to replicate and append to someone elses creation? Does that mean if I take the Mona Lisa and add a nice moustache to it I am a better artist than Leonardo Davinci?

I saw nothing in Gowan's solo work to convince me he's a better player than Dennis. Not that I really give a crap. I just don't think you can judge someone's ability based on their interpretation of someone else's work.

Look at Gowan's live solos. Not the ones in the Styx tunes, but when he's given free reign. They are extremely impressive and much more so than Dennis' were. Maybe it's a case of Dennis not showing his true abilities and Larry showing more of his. But Gowan's solos are pretty technical. Like I said, not comparing his Styx song solos to Dennis'.
Listen to the break he did Kiss Your Ass Goodbye. Dennis has never done anything like that.

On the other hand listen to how weak he is on OWE Dennis would have torn that sucker to shreds instead Gowan was totally week on the synths on that tune.

The fact that he laid back doesn't mean he wasn't capable as KYAG proves. Dennis could never play a break like that.

who cares? No amount of money will change your mind or mind, so why spend time on it?

it's not that one is the better singer, it's that they are different singers. At times something similar is there but they are just different. Go listen to the Good Catches Up, it's as good as anything Dennis ever had a hand in when he was with Styx.

I agree with the baiting.
But let me ask you this if you don't mind.
Don't you think that froy is baiting, by endlessly slaughtering everything that anybody has to say that is nice about Gowan and Styx.
Relentlessly plastering us with total negativity.
But I tell you what.
If froy and topher chose to be nice,I can too.
I just find it totally annoying about their total narrow mindedness.Maybe you don't.

But if all want to behave and see what this board used to be like,I'm in.

I'm not too impressed even with Crystal Ball, I highly doubt they are going to have much luck selling these cds. The originals are much better, these are just blah.

It's obnoxious...no need to extend this with the extra guitar solo and verse....Original much better through and through.

Why we need the 2 1/2 minute guitar odysseys on some of these songs makes no sense to me.

"Blah" is a good description. I think a lot of that has to do with the recording quality too. Tough to say as I'm hearing it online.

I agree with The Good Catches Up and have championed that song. It's great. They are different singers. For STYX, Dennis is the better singer. I LIKE Gowan on HIS stuff and Dr. and Salty Dog. I actually don't mind him on the Styx stuff. But those looking for him to bet better on it than Dennis, or saying as such, I don't agree with.

Dennis is the better singer, songwriter, hit-maker and producer. It's virtually impossible to argue those points unless:

A. You are Gowan.
B. You are a lonely girl in love with Gowan.
C. You are too young to have ever Seen Styx with Dennis LIVE in concert.

And I don't necessarily agree that Gowan is the better keyboard player. Is he better trained? Yes. But does that make him better?
Define better. Because Dennis has come up with some incredible sounds over the years that are pretty impressive from someone who had to "make things up as he went along." I'm more impressed with the fact that Dennis taught HIMSELF.
What Gowan IS good at is showing off. Spinning keys and turning around to face the audience while playing the keys backwards may be flashy but they also come across as incredibly Arrogant. A Bit much for a guy who is replacing a legend in a band that he (Gowan) had nothing to do with.

Pull up Crystal Ball the original on youtube listen to it online and it is easy to see which one is better. Online line or not, the remakes are not very good at all.

Popularized by the Beavis and Butt-head TV series, "dillweed" is a derogatory term used to describe irrational/dumb behavior and low intellectual capacity, usually resulting in some sort of consequence. Literally, "dillweed" likens someone to pubic hair - "dill" being slang for "penis" (think dill pickle) and "weed" being slang for "hair."
