Tommy Shaw Items Up On eBay

Postby StyxCollector » Wed Oct 06, 2010 10:39 am

I have no connection to the sales. Pretty cool stuff and fairly realistic pricing. And yes, the stuff is real.

If I didn't have an RIAA Kilroy award already, I'd be in the hunt. I used to have a PT award just like that, just not presented to Tommy.

Does he need cash or something? Why would you sell this?

It's his daughter, unless someone is using her first and middle name and has access to Tommy's stuff.

I am not going to speculate because quite frankly, how their family relations are now is none of our business. I think people need to just take it at face value - they're legit Styx items and if you want 'em, get 'em.

That would be just too funny. Him having to shell out his hard earned money to get back his stuff. If thats the case I may have to bid on some of this stuff.

I highly doubt that. He probably brings in around $150,000-$200,000 a year; less than most lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc.

I base this on the fact that Styx's fee per concert combined with Glass Tiger's fee is still less than $100,000 (The Queen Victoria Park New Years Celebration budget is $100,000, and they also had a spectacular fireworks show in addition to the two bands) Styx does about 100 shows a year, but there are about 30 other people that get a piece of that. Tommy doesn't even think of bringing in millions a year these days.

I'm estimating $50,000-$65,000 per show, to be split among about 30 people. Tommy's well off, but not rich by any means.

Prices are rediculously high for the RIAA records. Good luck getting that $$ for them.

Doubt he's pulling in "millions" - maybe during the heyday, not these days.

I think they're relatively ballpark, especially since it's presented to a band member and it's real. An RIAA for Kilroy would probably be worth $500 - $600 on its own with no band member and some generic schmuck.

It seems there is/was a market for counterfeit RIAA awards. To help combat this, the RIAA introduced their own holographic seal which has appeared on all plaques since March 1985.
I guess these items on sale were before that time so no way to verify if they're real or just unofficial copies made for the recipient's family members or whomever, unless Tommy comes right out and says they are Authentic.

There are only two RIAA awards up there (Babe, KWH). The others are from outside the USA. I had a PT award just like that one - it was from somewhere in Asia.

I've seen plenty of RIAA awards and given the source and what I see in that pic, it's real. I doubt Tommy would get a fake one.
