Mr Big CD review......

I know you're going to get flack, Andrew, but just wanted to let you know I couldn't agree more with your review!

Although I would have given it a 99% as I can't totally get into Still Ain't Enough For Me. Little too heavy for me and not quite sure I like what KS did with EM's vocals on that. Sounds like he put him through a funnel or something. So I'm docking 1%. :lol:

This album is a masterclass in how to kick ass, how to stay relevant and how to push boundaries without ever selling out what made the band great in the fist place.
Kevin Shirley's live-to-tape production is a revelation, but there might be some that don't take to his bottom-heavy, earthy style. Some have called it muddy, but it really is just "loose". What I hear here is a band on fire and thanks to this production work, I feel as if I'm listening to the guys in concert – just all new tracks. Not everyone is going to agree with me here, but this is perfect to my ears. Welcome back Mr. Big. Now top this!

Not to Tito-ize this thread, but let me ask you, doesn't a band have to be relevant in order to stay relevant? Are you smoking crack Andrew? Are your pain meds masking your thinking?

Now I am not a Mr Big hater and am actually looking forward to their show here in LA in 2 months. That being said, if I were to walk the streets of Southern California and ask 100 people if they knew who Mr Big was, I would get about 92 "Get the fuck outta here's," ....4 "who?' and maybe 4 "yes."

Are the boys talented? Surely. Did Kevin Shirley produce the disc? Yep. So what? He has definitely laid eggs in the past(just counting the ones in Journey). Doesn't mean you have Shirley it is an automatic slam dunk.

I have heard the links and cannot seriously it is "special." What the fuck am I missing?

I've been a big Mr. Big fan (yes, pun intended) since the S/T album. I've warmed up to "What If," and think it's solid. As expected, the musicianship is off the charts. I wouldn't give it a 100 percent ranking, as I don't think the songs are all there. There are some really good ones, however, and "Undertow" is excellent.

If going by the MR scale, I'd give it a high 80s/low 90s score at this point.

I predicted this a while back. I've listened to this album enough to know it's a solid 85% at best . The other 15% they gained from wombat is due to friendship/worship between Drewsky & Martin

. I do expect a 100% from any project that invloves Sheehan & Gilbert , but this simply isn't it. Still one of the best albums of the year!

Was just watching the intro in my sig, those 2 are amazing, love when they play off each other like that.

And yes, EM is just as good, you gotta remember his instrument is an actual body part, and I think his vocals are just as powerful as ever, especially at 50! You think Arnel's got a hard job, try singing over such powerhouses as Sheehan and Gilbert! :lol:

And do I have truly thoughtful music friends or what........got this in an email from a friend that was at NAMM this weekend........and Paul's too.

I still say a "100" album should be one where EVERY song is a classic. I have never heard that before in an album, and find it highly unlikely that I ever will. Closest I think I've ever heard was about 3-4 songs that would rate "10/10" for me.

For this album, good? yes. Very good? maybe. Every song a classic? I don't think so. I don't think I hear any 10/10, although maybe some 9/10 songs.

Billy talks about pencilling in Australia and stuff, around the 00:55 mark.
Considering these 4 haven't played together in the US in well over 15 years and individually or collectively have worked/played with just about everybody, I'll bet the LA show is going to be attended by some of the peers from LA. They start their Japan tour 5 days later, so I'm hoping for a real mix of jamming MB tunes as a one-off warm up for their Japan leg.

what I'm interested in seeing is his review for the new Magnum album. He's a self-professed huge fan of the band, but has been less than thrilled with the reunion albums--not that I totally disagree with him. The diehards seem to love it, which is an amazing feet since I've never seen a fanbase with more differing opinions on how to rate the back catalog than Magnum fans. Never seen a band that deviated style so much from album to album either. Be interested to see the wombat's thoughts on this one.

Inxs – Original Sin – Sony – Utterly horrendous. It's pretty obvious who ran this band, as since Michael Hutchence's untimely death, this band has made more shitty decisions than Gene Simmons has made marketing moves. To name the highlights, they screw up working with Jon Stevens, blew all the momentum they had with JD Fortune and now this regurgitated 'remixed' hits collection. This is horrible and is of zero credibility for those that loved the band's studio albums. All these songs have been programmed to the hilt with sequencing, dance beats and effects filled vocals. Utter utter shite! Great songs ruined beyond recognition and average songs brought back to life with crap guest vocals. Even the Rob Thomas version of Original Sin has been slaughtered. How is that possible? Only 1 song here of any redeeming value and that is JD Fortune's version of The Stairs. The rest is complete manure.

Sorry, I can't even stand to listen to that guy anymore. I will try....but seriously. Him and his bloody offspring and fricking everywhere down here and they'd turn up to the opening of an envelope. Just so utterly sick of them all - and Jimmy screams too much these days.

there probably ARE benefits in living somewhere where you don't get someone shoved at you all the time. As far as family, I'd get sick of them pretty quickly. One fairly good drummer and one good backing singer, and that's it for musical talent.

Not a lot of screaming on the last 2 albums, and some very good melodic rock songwriting especially on the new one. Not really hard rock, but melodic rock and he's bringing in some good outside writing talent to collaborate with. It's worth a listen.

sounds like I would be better off waiting for the Matchbox 20 album to hear Rob Thomas if even he can't save this album. Not his fault, but that one was pretty much ruined by the changes they did.

Rob's another one that I like his delivery. Whether it's a rocker or ballad, he always throws the song down with passion or emotion.
