A Message From Tommy Shaw

Postby Baron Von Bielski » Thu Feb 17, 2011 7:41 am

Hello Friends,

We've been working on Regeneration: Volume II and it's really getting good! Within a few weeks it will be in Gary Loizzo's hands to begin mixing. Can't wait to hear it finished and then to make it available to you all. We'll then be turning our attention to post production of the video of our Memphis concert at the Orpheum Theater which we shot last November. And tour dates are shaping up to be announced. Yes, another unique and amazing year for us on the road! Nope, we are not even close to being ready to announce the farewell tour!

Thank you all for your continued support, for showing up and always setting the bar for excitement so high. We love to rise up to it.

AND, my solo album, The Great Divide comes out on March 22. It's gonna be a year to remember!!!

This is just further proof that this band has lost any creative ideas. The fact that Tommy seems so excited to hear rerecords of songs he has played thousands of times is pathetic. While he is at it, maybe he should do rerecords of What If, Girls With Guns, Ambition and 7DZ. I would be willing to bet that a album of all new Styx material would sell the same amount as these rerecords. Best version of Styx my ass.

I agree, it'd be nice if they'd just record an album of all "new" original material.

The point that these Regeneration EPs are not going to sell more copies then a new album of Styx material blows the bands excuses out if the water about why they are not recording a album of all new material. They are just covering up that they:

A.) Have no desire to give fans new material.
B.) The writing chemistry in the band has dried up.
C.) They cannot come up with a full album of solid new material.

The fact they think fans believe those excuses is hilarious.

It's been around 9 years since Cyclorama, you mean to tell me in all that time they haven't wrote enough "good" music to record an album??? Jesus Christ! 10 fricken songs, that's all you need! I liked the studio recording of Just Be from the CYO CD. Everything All the Time is O.K. But the new song from Regeneration doesn't really do it for me. Let's hope it's not a harbinger of what a new album would sound like if they recorded one. Ha! If they recorded one... good one!!

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the song sucks. It's still better than the 2 Gowan songs from Cyclorama... it's just not Styx IMO.

Band members used to publicly state they were writing together all the time while on the road. So if that were true I would think they would have enough material to cut at least one album of all new stuff. If those statements were true then it begs the question why are you writing new songs if you don't plan to release them or at least put them in your set list? Since we haven't seen substantial new material from this version of Styx I get the feeling that it's the TS\JY band with the name Styx slapped on it. The rest of the band are just hired employees.

If all your concerned about is not making a buck off your music then I think you missed the point of what a musician really is.
