OT: Review of Rush on the Time Machine tour in Nashville

I saw this tour last fall. I was never a huge fan of Rush but I sure am now. They are GREAT!!!

Since I saw this show I have purchased Moving Pictures and Exit Stage Left. Great albums. I am hoping that they will release a new album with Caravan on it.

"Caravan" is available on iTunes with "BU2B," and both songs are supposed to be included in a forthcoming album entitled 'Clockwork Angels.'

I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the strength of both new songs. Either one of them stands up to past Rush efforts. I get so much relatively bad product from classic acts that I've become jaded. Most of the time I don't know whether to look forward to a new album from a band I like, or dread it, so kudos to Rush for moving forward with strong new material and then actually playing it live. That was a nice surprise.

I'm not a huge Rush fan at all. However, I can say that I respect what those 3 guys generate. I've never been to one of their shows, but have watched a few (R30?) on TV. Pretty impressive, even when I don't like the tune. I've debated actually going to a show, but my wife won't go with me, and the only friend I have that likes them is out in LA.

On a different front, I thought that the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden album was filled with great new material. Disc 1 definitely stronger than the 2nd, but I thought, overall a great effort. And when I saw the tour, they played 6 or 7 of the new songs, all of which were terrific. Probably one of the best shows I've been to.

Neil Peart made an interesting comment not too long ago. He stated that since there are three of them, there "can never be a democracy". They either all agree to do something, or they don't do it. That's probably an advantage to only having three people in a band. Also, you could make the argument, that unlike most bands, the guys in Rush are all "equally talented', so there really could never BE a Rush without those exact three people in the band. I honestly thing that's what has allowed them to endure for so long.

After watching the 'Behind the Lighted Stage" documentary on Rush movie, it is very very good BTW, I highly reccomend for anyone that is a fan of rock music watch it. I had no idea that these guys are this close either, Geddy and Alex are life long best friends , so that has to be another reason they have made it work so long.

I was at the Cleveland show also, and the Hershey show the week before. I also saw the Pittsburgh show last September. I thought that this show in Cleveland was far superior to either of the previous shows and better than either of the S&A shows I saw. The air was electric and the boys were on fire, they really put a little bit extra into the performance.

If anyone wrote a definitive bio of Rush, they should call it 'The Rules Don't Apply.' But I doubt I'm the right guy for that since I don't know that much about the band. I liked what I saw, but I'm hardly the world's most knowledgeable Rush fan.

I DO give the band full kudos for holding it together. That's not easy and it takes people who want to be fair to one another, instead of ripping into one another. That doesn't happen much, sadly.

You are certainly right about that. It certainly helps if the band members are long term friends. In the case of Styx, I don't think there was a lot of friendship created which is another reason for their downfall.
