No mention of Dennis on the Styx site?

Postby DracIsBack » Sat May 07, 2011 4:53 am

I was over looking at styxworld for the first time in years and decided to check the band history to look up something. There was absolutely NO MENTION of Dennis DeYoung. It was like he didn't exist!

i've seen lots of sites where bands have moved on without famous frontmen but never seen something quite this petty before. Wow! Regardless of what people think about Styx with DeYoung or without, that seems like a little too much of a slam, IMO.

Very petty.

go look at the van halen site.........they even went as far as to remove mike anthony from the picutres of the album covers he appeared on.

that sucks and so does the situation with styx.......any band that does that it sucks for the fans that have loved them for years.

Holy crap, that is petty!

I get why bands want to focus on the current line-up, but to pretend that key players never existed at all ... wow.

Shows the audacity of this group of guys running around calling themselves STYX. The funny thing is they get away with it, The beer drinkers and teenagers of this world enable this fiasco to happen, Sheep is what we call em.

You would think Dennis slept with Shaw's wife or something with this kind of Spite flying around for the last 11 years. All I know is the STYX legacy is destroyed because of it. Damn Shame.

Dennis does not allow his name to be used without permission.

I doubt very seriously that he would have any problem with having his named used in the context of the band's history as long as it is factually correct. While I am not privy as to why this is the case, it seems more likely to me that they did this on their own without direction of Dennis or his legal representation. The reason I say this is because some of the members of Styx use the term "former member of the band" when speaking about things related to Dennis.

Although I don't agree with what they've done by almost pretending he wasn't ever in the band, it does appear that many bands with ex-members do this. Mostly to bring the focus to current members.

Yeah, but Dennis was involved and key to a lot of their successes. It is petty for sure.

Regardless history speaks for itself, I don't think Dennis has anything to worry about when it comes to people knowing his importance in Styx history.

Not sure it's to this extreme though! Like - they don't mention that he existed ever.

If you look at Journey's BIO, you can find references to Steve Perry

http://www.journeymusic.com/pages/bio

If you look at Chicago's, you can find references to Peter Cetera

http://chicagotheband.info/chapters35.cfm

To erase Dennis like Styx did from the site or (worse) remove Anthony from art of albums he appeared on ... that's just petty.

To be fair on this subject I don't think anyone outside the band knows if this was done because they were being petty or if it is related to the lawsuit settlement. This would be a good hard ball question to put to JY, TS or CP. Maybe someone like Sterling can note this and ask one of them if he ever gets the chance to interview them again.

I totally get interest in the band, though it always amazes me how quick people are to leap to personal conclusions about people they don't know personally and situations they weren't there to personally witness.

You cannot erase Dennis from the history of the band that he Co-Founded and made famous. That is ludicrous.
Everyone knows Dennis is, was and will always be Styx. They can do whatever they want to promote the current band calling themselves Styx, but Styx is Styx because of Equinox, Crystal Ball, The Grand Illusion, Peices of Eight, Cornerstone, Paradise Theater and Kilroy Was Here. PERIOD. And a guy named Dennis Deyoung produced, wrote most of and Sang most of those albums.
His legacy is fine. And his current show, which I'm about to buy tickets for in about 15 minutes when they go on sale is the best STYX show on Earth right now.

Yeah, like when Tommy left in '84 and the other members of Styx wanted to get a replacement for him and press on. But Dennis disagreed and wanted to wait and see if Tommy would return. And when they regrouped in '90 with Glen, he chose to release LITR as the first single featuring the newest member of the band. Similarly, when Tommy joined in '76 his songs were prominently featured on CB not to mention the title of the album was named after his song. When someone in the band needed money and wanted to tour in '97 when they were supposed to take a break, Dennis agreed to do the tour. Yep, those surely seem like the actions of a person that thinks only of himself.
