Two Viable Bands

Something someone posted on another thread prompted me to think about this, then ask.

I would like to know if there are any groups who have split with their identifiable lead vocalist, and both they and the vocalist have gone on to create two entities, performing mostly the same music, playing to the same size venues, receiving very positive feedback from their fans (and sometimes music critics or writers).

In the case of Styx and Dennis, they are both putting on essentially competing yet similar shows, but often drawing the same people to both of the shows who love both sides of this same coin.

Has any other split-apart group done this with the kind of consistent success that Dennis and the Music of Styx and Styx the Band have had?

Off the top of my head, I cannot think of any that have had a sort of year after year success (albeit it moderate) story. And I mean consistent success, not a one-off thing.

These are good examples, but I wonder if they did nearly identical setlists? Or some of the same songs? But all would be examples of one band staying in tact and touring at the same time its identifiable frontman was out there as well and doing well.

I would guess Brian Wilson and the touring Beach Boys would be, or have been, doing very similar setlists.

When there was a split in the group Temptations for a time there were actually 2 groups touring at the same time calling themselves The Temptations.
